Coastliner is United’s name for a planned subfleet of Airbus A321neo aircraft configured for premium transcontinental travel. United announced the aircraft on March 24, 2026, describing service between its West Coast hubs—Los Angeles and San Francisco—and Newark/New York. The announced market connects Newark with Los Angeles and San Francisco. The Points Guy’s coverage on announcement day identified the initial pairings as Newark–San Francisco and Newark–Los Angeles. It also reported that the aircraft might appear at JFK after United’s planned 2027 return there; JFK was not part of United’s original route commitment, so treat that as a reported future possibility rather than a confirmed Coastliner route. United’s announcement described the Coastliner as a service for its Newark and West Coast hubs, but the available announcement does not establish a current timetable, flight frequency, or specific aircraft assignments.

When does the Coastliner start flying?
United projected a summer 2026 launch in its March 24 announcement. A projected launch window is not confirmation of entry into service. As of October 8, 2026, no later Coastliner-specific official confirmation of passenger-service start, current schedule, or aircraft assignments was established in the available material. United announced plans for 50 Coastliner aircraft. The airline said 40 were expected to be flying by early 2028, and separately said 40 of the planned aircraft would be delivered by April 2028.
