For Summer 2025, United planned two different changes to its Dublin service: seasonal flights between Dublin and Washington, D.C., were set to increase from once to twice daily from March 29, while the seasonal Chicago O’Hare route was to switch from a Boeing 757-200 to a Boeing 787-8. Dublin Airport later reported that United’s overall capacity at Dublin would be up 40% for the season. These are historical plans and reporting, not a description of United’s current 2026 schedule.
What United planned for Dublin–Washington, D.C.
Dublin Airport said on December 14, 2024, that United planned to double its seasonal Dublin–Washington, D.C., service from one to two flights daily, beginning March 29, 2025. That is a frequency increase: the announcement did not state how many seats would be available on the route or establish the final number of flights operated.
Dublin Airport’s announcement quoted Karolien De Hertogh, United Airlines’ Director of Sales UK and Ireland, saying the expansion would offer customers in Ireland “even greater travel choice” when booking a U.S. summer getaway.
What changed on Dublin–Chicago O’Hare
United also planned to replace the Boeing 757-200 on its seasonal Dublin–Chicago O’Hare service with a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. This was an aircraft change, not an announced increase in daily frequency. Dublin Airport’s announcement did not specify the route’s seat count, so the aircraft substitution alone does not establish how many additional seats would be offered.

How to interpret the 40% capacity figure
In its March 28, 2025, summer schedule summary, Dublin Airport reported that United’s capacity at Dublin would rise 40% for Summer 2025. The figure describes United’s capacity at the airport overall; it is not a seat increase for either the Washington or Chicago route individually. The airport also reported North America capacity overall up 11% for the season. Those figures have different scopes: 40% refers to United at Dublin, while 11% refers to capacity to North America across the airport’s schedule.
United separately said on October 10, 2024, that its entire Summer 2025 transatlantic schedule would include more than 760 weekly flights. That network-wide figure is context, not a count of United’s Dublin flights.

What the announcements do not establish
The cited announcements do not provide final route-level seat totals, fares, load factors, or evidence of the exact number of flights ultimately operated. They describe plans and airport-reported seasonal capacity, so they should not be read as proof that every announced flight or aircraft assignment operated exactly as planned. Travelers checking a present-day itinerary should consult the airline’s current schedule rather than rely on these 2025 announcements.
