United Airlines announced new and additional flights serving 15 cities on September 4, 2025, with the added service planned to begin January 6, 2026. The announcement is historical: it does not confirm which flights operate now, whether seats are available, or what they cost. Check United’s live booking results for your dates before making plans.
What United announced
United described a winter schedule expansion that included added daily roundtrips on domestic routes, two new routes from Newark/New York, and additional weekly service from Houston to three Central American cities. It also said it would add extra flights between Houston, Chicago and Los Angeles, and use larger aircraft between Chicago and New York LaGuardia to help customers connect to the added flights.
United said its published daily flight counts would reach the following totals as a result of the expansion. These are figures from the airline’s September 2025 announcement, not current flight counts.

Two new Newark/New York routes
The two new routes were Newark/New York–Columbia, South Carolina, and Newark/New York–Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Additional weekly Houston service to Central America
The Houston expansion included three new weekly flights each to Guatemala City and San Salvador, and one new weekly flight to San Pedro Sula.

When were the flights supposed to start?
United said the added flights would begin January 6, 2026. The date was the planned start in the September 4, 2025 announcement; it does not establish that every listed flight is operating on a particular date now.

The release stated United’s rationale in the context of possible disruption at Spirit, not an event that had already happened. Patrick Quayle, then identified by United as senior vice president of Global Network Planning and Alliances, said: “If Spirit suddenly goes out of business it will be incredibly disruptive, so we’re adding these flights to give their customers other options if they want or need them.” The conditional wording matters: the announcement did not say Spirit had ceased operating.

A route announcement is not a fare quote or a guarantee that seats remain for sale.
