Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteUsually, no: Samsung’s standard U.S. limited warranty generally excludes a screen cracked by a drop, pressure, or another accident. It may cover a display that fails because of a manufacturing or workmanship defect, subject to Samsung’s inspection and the model’s warranty period. Accidental damage may instead qualify for Samsung Care+ or require a paid repair. The terms below concern Samsung’s U.S. mobile warranty; other countries, device categories, sellers, and plans may have different terms.
Which kind of screen problem do you have?
The cause and symptoms matter more than the word “screen damage.” A cracked display after impact is treated differently from a display that stops working during ordinary use without signs of damage.
| Problem | Likely route |
|---|---|
| Crack, shattered glass, or display failure after a drop, bend, pressure, or other accident | Generally excluded from the standard warranty; check Samsung Care+ or request a paid repair estimate. |
| Scratches, scuffs, dents, or other cosmetic marks | Generally excluded as cosmetic damage or ordinary wear. |
| Lines, flickering, discoloration, failed touch, or a blank display with no known accident or liquid exposure | May qualify for a warranty evaluation if Samsung finds a defect in materials or workmanship. |
| Only a screen protector is cracked | First determine whether the protector or the device’s actual display is damaged; a protector is not the display assembly. |
These are starting points, not coverage decisions. Samsung’s U.S. mobile warranty terms exclude accidental, cosmetic, and several other kinds of damage; inspection determines how a particular failure is classified.
What the standard Samsung warranty covers—and excludes
Defects under normal use
The U.S. mobile limited warranty is for defects in materials and workmanship under normal use, within the applicable model-specific warranty period. A display or touchscreen failure without evidence of an accident may be eligible for evaluation, but an intact-looking phone is not automatically covered. Samsung decides whether the fault is a covered defect or an excluded condition.
#1 Best Overall
The cited warranty applies to products supplied and distributed by Samsung Electronics America and purchased from Samsung or an authorized reseller for use in the 50 United States and District of Columbia, unless a separate written agreement applies. It is generally for the original consumer purchaser, subject to stated exceptions. Imported devices, used devices, and products bought from other sellers may have different coverage or service limitations. Check the terms and model-specific warranty information rather than assuming one duration applies to every Galaxy device.
For a covered defect, Samsung may repair the product, replace it with a new or functionally equivalent product, or in limited circumstances provide a refund under the warranty terms and applicable law. A repaired or replaced product is generally covered for the remainder of the original warranty period or 90 days, whichever is longer. See the warranty terms for conditions and details.
Damage the warranty generally excludes
Samsung’s terms exclude damage caused by accident, misuse, neglect, abnormal use, or unusual physical stress. They also exclude scratches, dents, cosmetic damage, ordinary wear, excessive pressure on a touchscreen, and specified damage from liquid, moisture, weather, sand, dust, or dirt inconsistent with the device’s specifications. External causes such as collision, fire, flooding, or lightning are also among the exclusions.

Damage caused by unapproved accessories or parts, improper repair, or other unauthorized service may also be excluded. This does not mean every third-party repair automatically eliminates every warranty right; it can affect coverage for related damage or impair Samsung’s ability to assess or perform a repair. The complete exclusions are in Samsung’s published U.S. warranty.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIf the screen cracked “by itself”
If you did not drop, bend, press, or expose the phone to liquid, request a warranty evaluation rather than assuming either that the claim will be approved or that it is pointless. Samsung’s terms do not promise coverage based solely on an owner not knowing what caused a crack. The inspection may find evidence of impact, pressure, liquid, or another excluded cause.
- Photograph the phone from several angles before handing it over or shipping it.
- Write down when the problem began and any relevant events, such as a drop, pressure, moisture, or prior repair. Be accurate; do not guess at a cause.
- Submit it through Samsung’s authorized service process and ask for the diagnosis and any denial reason in writing.
Samsung Care+ and the standard warranty are different
The standard warranty addresses qualifying manufacturing or workmanship defects; Samsung Care+ is a separate protection plan that can cover qualifying accidental damage under its terms. Samsung’s U.S. Care+ page describes accidental-damage coverage, including drops and spills. The page currently lists the following cracked-screen claim fees; they are not universal out-of-pocket repair prices.
Rank #3
| Protection | Samsung-listed cracked-screen fee | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Standard limited warranty | No accidental-damage benefit; possible coverage only for an eligible defect. | Inspection and the model’s warranty terms apply. |
| Samsung Care+ | $29 per qualifying cracked-screen claim | Eligibility, claim approval, plan terms, damage extent, and service availability apply. |
| Samsung Care+ with Theft and Loss | $0 per qualifying cracked-screen claim | Eligibility and plan terms apply; the fee does not make every repair or replacement free. |
| No applicable plan | Not a fixed amount | Samsung repair pricing varies by device, diagnosis, warranty status, and repair type. |
Samsung’s U.S. Care+ page listed the $29 and $0 figures when checked on August 16, 2026. Fees and terms can change. Additional damage to a frame, hinge, back glass, camera, battery, or internal component may make the job different from a qualifying cracked-screen repair. Samsung says same-day service may be available for eligible devices in select areas; approval, location, parts, and technician availability affect the route and timing.
Samsung says eligible customers may be able to enroll at purchase or within one year of buying a new device, but enrollment rules, inspection, and pre-existing-damage restrictions control. Do not buy a plan expecting it to cover damage that has already happened. Confirm that the device is eligible and review the current terms before enrolling. Theft-and-loss protection is a separate consideration: Samsung lists device-dependent theft/loss deductibles and a claim limit, so compare the plan’s full terms and cost with the protection you actually need.

When a defect and accidental damage coexist
A phone can have a genuine defect and separate physical damage. Samsung’s warranty says it may require non-warranted damage or other conditions to be corrected at the customer’s expense when they prevent evaluation or repair—for example, when a cracked screen must be removed to diagnose another problem. Third-party parts or modifications can create a similar obstacle.

Before authorizing work, ask for a written diagnosis and itemized estimate that distinguishes the necessary paid correction from any proposed warranty repair. Ask whether Samsung can evaluate the underlying issue without first repairing the screen, and what happens if you decline the paid work.
Prepare before requesting service
Samsung requires warranty service through an authorized Walk-In, Mobile, or Mail-In option. Its terms call for a receipt or comparable proof showing the original purchase date, original consumer purchaser, product serial number, and seller’s name and address. Prepare the following:
- Proof of purchase and the phone’s model, IMEI, or serial number.
- Photos showing the screen and the rest of the device, plus a short timeline describing when and how the symptom began.
- A backup of photos, messages, and other important data. Samsung warns that service may delete or reformat device content; follow its current preparation instructions.
- Removal of the SIM and memory card, where applicable, and any other account, lock-screen, or accessory preparation Samsung requests for the service route.
- Your Samsung account details if the service flow requires them, and the service-request number once you have one.
For Samsung’s backup and service-preparation guidance, consult its warranty information and follow the instructions for your specific model and repair option.

Request a diagnosis and estimate
- Identify the exact model, purchase source, and country or region for which it was sold. Check whether its model-specific warranty period is still active.
- Classify the problem as suspected defect, accidental damage, cosmetic damage, or a combination. If you have Care+, check the plan attached to the device and its claim instructions.
- Back up your data and gather the proof and device information listed above.
- Open Samsung’s repair request and service page, select the device and issue, and review the available Walk-In, Mobile, or Mail-In options.
- Keep the request number. Before approving a paid repair, ask for the diagnosis, itemized price, repair scope, and whether the device can be returned unrepaired.
Samsung says screen-replacement pricing at its repair locations is set by device, while the final amount may depend on diagnosis, warranty status, and repair type. Use the current Samsung repair page for an estimate rather than relying on a generic screen-repair price.
If Samsung denies warranty coverage
Ask Samsung to identify the condition that led to the denial and provide the diagnosis in writing. If the proposed repair is paid, request an itemized estimate and clarify whether it covers only the display or other damaged parts too. You can then compare the official repair with an applicable Care+ claim, existing carrier or retailer protection, a reputable independent repairer, or replacement. Plan terms and third-party repair consequences differ, so verify them before committing.
If you believe the decision overlooked relevant facts, provide your photos, purchase proof, and concise account of the failure and ask whether the device can be reassessed. Keep the denial and estimate; they may be useful when speaking with another protection provider. Do not assume that a warranty denial proves the device has no other coverage.
Repair or replace?
Compare the all-in repair cost—including any plan service fee, shipping, deductible, and additional damage—with the phone’s current replacement cost and remaining useful life. Also consider the device’s age and resale value, whether it is foldable, the condition of its frame, battery, cameras, and back glass, data-recovery needs, and any remaining carrier installment balance. A screen-only quote may not resolve damage to another component.
If considering trade-in, check the current device-condition rules separately: trade-in eligibility is not warranty coverage. Samsung publishes separate trade-in terms.
Safety: damaged or swollen battery
If impact has bent the phone or the battery is swollen, unusually hot, or otherwise appears unsafe, stop using it and do not attempt a self-repair. Samsung advises taking a damaged or swollen battery to an authorized location and warns against shipping it through USPS or another shipping service. Contact Samsung or an authorized service location for safe handling instructions before transporting the device; see its safety and warranty guidance.
