Yes—you can buy items from Unclaimed Baggage online. The retailer opened its online store in 2020, 50 years after beginning as a physical resale business. Its website offers a changing assortment of individual found items, not a predictable catalog of identical products.
What is Unclaimed Baggage?
Unclaimed Baggage is a resale retailer based in Scottsboro, Alabama. According to the company’s history, founder Doyle Owens bought his first load of unclaimed baggage from Trailways Bus Line in 1970 and sold its contents from card tables in a rented house. The company says it signed its first airline contract in 1978 and later expanded to other unclaimed goods and cargo.
The company launched its first online store in 2020 to mark its 50th anniversary. That was the move online—not the start of the business.
What can you buy online?
The online store carries a variable assortment of found goods. Its homepage says new items are added daily, and many listings are one of a kind. For example, the site has displayed Kindle e-readers, but that is an illustration of the changing inventory, not a guarantee that a particular model is available. Check the current listing for the exact item, price, photographs and stated condition before buying.

How does luggage reach the store?
Unclaimed Baggage says a bag is considered orphaned only after an extensive three-month search. The company reports that less than 0.03% of checked luggage reaches that status. That figure is the company’s own operational claim, not an independently audited industry-wide measurement.

According to the company’s process description, items that reach it are sorted, cleaned, cleared, prepared and priced. Items may then be sold, donated or recycled. The company says its physical store stocks approximately 7,000 unique discounted items each day and that it lists thousands more online; these are company-reported figures, not independently audited counts.
Can you visit the physical store?
Yes. The store is in Scottsboro, Alabama. In an April 2022 announcement, the Alabama Tourism Department described it as a 50,000-square-foot attraction drawing more than 1 million tourists annually. Those are dated 2022 figures, not confirmed current measurements. If you are planning a visit, verify current hours, location details and visitor information before travelling.

What happens to items that are not sold?
Unclaimed Baggage says items can be donated or recycled as well as sold. In the Alabama Tourism Department’s April 2022 announcement, company representative Bryan Owens said: “On average, for every item we sell, we donate another one to incredible organizations helping underserved communities through our ‘Reclaimed for Good’ foundation.” This is Owens’s description of the foundation’s average, as quoted by the department; it should not be read as an independently verified audited ratio.
