The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) warned about Ostrich Capital on 20 August 2018. That date matters: the notice is a historical FCA warning, not a new or recent announcement.
The FCA said it believed Ostrich Capital may have been providing financial services or products in the UK without authorisation. It also said the firm was targeting people in the UK and was not authorised by the FCA.
What the FCA warning says
The FCA’s notice does not describe a criminal conviction, name an individual who was found guilty, or record a formal FCA finding that Ostrich Capital was fraudulent. Its wording was a warning about suspected unauthorised activity.
The FCA identified Ostrich Capital using the following details:

These details come from the FCA’s warning, which was published and last updated on 20 August 2018. They should not be assumed to describe a current office, website, owner or operator. The FCA cautions that unauthorised firms can change contact details or use information belonging to another business or individual.
Why authorisation matters
Firms offering regulated financial services in the UK generally need the appropriate FCA authorisation or registration. Authorisation is not a blanket endorsement of every product or promise made by a firm. It means the firm has been assessed for the particular regulated activities and permissions shown on the FCA’s records.
The FCA said customers dealing with Ostrich Capital would not have access to the Financial Ombudsman Service and would not be protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) if the firm failed.
That remains the key consumer-protection issue. FSCS compensation is not available merely because a business used a UK address, had a professional-looking website or described itself as an investment firm. The firm and the activity must fall within the scheme’s rules. An unauthorised broker does not become eligible for FSCS protection simply because a customer has lost money.
How to check a financial firm today
The FCA says consumers should check both its Warning List and the FCA Firm Checker. A firm’s absence from the Warning List is not proof that it is legitimate: the FCA may not yet know about a business, and unauthorised firms can change names.

- Open the FCA Firm Checker separately.
- Check that the firm is authorised and has permission for the exact service being offered—not merely a similar name or a different type of financial activity.
If a firm contacts you unexpectedly, use the telephone number or other contact information shown on the FCA’s own register. Do not rely only on a number, email address or website supplied by the firm.
What has been reported about the alleged operator
Some contemporaneous broker-review reports identified Venture Gravity Ltd as the entity behind Ostrich Capital and described it as registered in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. That is secondary reporting, not an ownership finding by the FCA.
A 2018 Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Gazette listed Venture Gravity Ltd as an international business company with registration number 23514. The listing confirms that a company with that name appeared in the Gazette. It does not, by itself, prove that the company operated Ostrich Capital or carried on regulated financial business.

Act quickly, even if the payment was made years ago. Contact the bank or payment provider that handled the transaction using the number on your card, statement or official banking app. Explain that you believe the payment may relate to an unauthorised financial firm and ask what recovery, recall or fraud-reporting options remain.
Keep copies of:
- bank statements and payment confirmations;
- emails, messages and account screenshots;
- the website address and any documents supplied by the firm;
- names, telephone numbers and email addresses used by the people who contacted you; and
- records of every report made to your bank, the FCA or another authority.
Do not pay an alleged recovery company that promises to release your money for an upfront fee. People who have already lost money are often targeted with a second scam claiming that tax, legal costs or an account-verification payment is needed before funds can be returned.

Payment-reimbursement rules depend on when and how you paid
The original Ostrich Capital warning predates the UK’s mandatory reimbursement regime for many authorised push-payment scams.
For eligible UK payments made on or after 7 October 2024 through Faster Payments or CHAPS, the Payment Systems Regulator’s reimbursement rules may apply. The FCA says eligible victims may receive reimbursement of up to £85,000, normally within five working days, although a payment service provider can take up to 35 working days in some cases.

A provider may apply an excess of up to £100, and reimbursement can be refused in certain circumstances—for example, where it establishes that the customer was not sufficiently careful or was involved in the fraud.
This is not a general guarantee for every investment loss. The outcome can depend on:
- the payment date;
- whether the payment went through Faster Payments or CHAPS;
- whether the recipient and account meet the scheme’s requirements;
- whether the money went overseas, to a crypto exchange or to an account in the victim’s own name; and
- whether the payment was made by card or another method with separate dispute rules.
Payments made before 7 October 2024 are not automatically covered by the new regime, but contacting the bank is still worthwhile. The bank may have other fraud, chargeback or payment-recall procedures.

Commonly repeated claims that need correcting
“The FCA recently warned Ostrich Capital”
Not according to the official notice. The warning was published and last updated on 20 August 2018. Articles describing it as a new or latest warning should state that date clearly.
“The FCA declared Ostrich Capital a scam”
That overstates the notice. The FCA said it believed the firm may have been providing financial services without authorisation and warned consumers not to deal with it. The notice itself does not record a criminal finding or a formal FCA determination that the firm was fraudulent.
“FSCS protection is £50,000”
That figure is outdated for the relevant investment-compensation categories. The FSCS says the limit for investment provision and investment intermediation increased from £50,000 to £85,000 per person, per firm in 2019. However, the limit only matters where a claim qualifies under the FSCS rules. It does not provide protection for dealings with an unauthorised broker.
“Anyone who paid Ostrich Capital cannot recover their money”
That is also too absolute. Recovery is not guaranteed, but the available route depends on the payment date, payment method, bank, jurisdictions involved and the surrounding facts. Some eligible UK Faster Payments and CHAPS transfers made from 7 October 2024 may fall within the reimbursement regime.

FAQ
When did the FCA warn about Ostrich Capital?
The FCA published its warning on 20 August 2018, and the notice records the same date as its last update. It is not a recent 2026 warning.
Was Ostrich Capital authorised by the FCA?
The FCA said Ostrich Capital was not authorised by the FCA and may have been providing financial services or products in the UK without authorisation.
Did the FCA officially call Ostrich Capital a scam?
No. The warning said the firm may have been conducting unauthorised activity. It did not itself record a criminal finding or a formal FCA determination that Ostrich Capital was fraudulent.
Can the FSCS compensate customers of Ostrich Capital?
The FCA said customers dealing with Ostrich Capital would not have FSCS protection if things went wrong. FSCS eligibility depends on the firm, the activity and the scheme rules; an unauthorised broker is not covered simply because it operated from or targeted the UK.
What should I do if I paid Ostrich Capital?
Contact your bank or payment provider immediately using an official number, report the suspected unauthorised payment and ask about recall, fraud and reimbursement options. Preserve all correspondence and payment records, and be wary of recovery scams.
How can I check whether an investment firm is legitimate?
Search the FCA Warning List, then use the FCA Firm Checker to confirm the firm’s authorisation and permission for the specific service offered. Do not rely solely on the firm’s trading name, website or contact details.
The Bottom Line
The verified position is that the FCA warned about Ostrich Capital on 20 August 2018, saying it was not FCA-authorised and appeared to be targeting UK consumers with financial services requiring authorisation. The notice is historical, not a new warning. It does not by itself amount to a criminal finding of fraud, but it does mean customers were outside the normal FCA, Financial Ombudsman Service and FSCS protections. Anyone who paid should contact their bank promptly and check whether the payment method and date create a recovery or reimbursement route.
Read the FCA’s Ostrich Capital warning and use the FCA’s Warning List guidance and fraudulent-payments guidance for current steps.
