NTA released the provisional answer key and recorded responses on September 7, 2024, for candidates who took the rescheduled UGC-NET June 2024 exam on August 21–23. The deadline to challenge that phase was September 9, 2024, at 11:50 p.m.; it has passed. Candidates in later exam dates had a separate window, extended to September 14, 2024.
Which candidates did the September 9 deadline cover?
The September 7 notice applied to candidates examined on August 21, 22, and 23, 2024. NTA made the provisional answer keys, question papers, and recorded responses available through its official UGC-NET website. Challenges and payment for this phase were due by September 9, 2024, at 11:50 p.m. NTA’s notice and UGC-NET site contain the official records.
This was a past challenge window, not an open application period. The date in the headline did not apply to every candidate in the rescheduled June 2024 cycle.
How did the two challenge phases differ?
| Exam dates | Challenge period and deadline | What the deadline meant |
|---|---|---|
| August 21–23, 2024 | Notice issued September 7; deadline September 9, 2024, at 11:50 p.m. | Original challenge and payment cutoff for this phase. NTA September 7 notice |
| August 27–30 and September 2–5, 2024 | Challenges began September 11; the original September 13 cutoff was extended to September 14, 2024, at 11:50 p.m. | A separate window for candidates in the later exam dates. NTA extension notice |
The dates and extension are set out in NTA’s notices. A candidate’s applicable window depended on the exam date, not simply on the “June 2024” cycle label.

What was the 2024 challenge process?
For the August 21–23 phase, NTA’s annexure described an online process: sign in with the application number and date of birth, review the recorded response sheet and provisional keys, then select the relevant option IDs to challenge. Candidates could upload supporting documents together in one PDF. Questions marked as dropped were not open to challenge. The Information Bulletin required justification or evidence and use of the prescribed link within the stipulated time. NTA’s September 7 notice and the June 2024 Information Bulletin describe the process.
The fee was ₹200 per challenged question, described by NTA as a non-refundable processing fee. Payment was accepted by credit card, debit card, net banking, or UPI. NTA said challenges without payment, or sent through another mode, would not be entertained. These were the terms for the 2024 window, not a current fee or submission opportunity.
How did NTA decide challenges?
Subject experts reviewed the challenges. NTA said any accepted challenge would lead to a revision of the key, and the revision would be applied to all candidates’ responses. The notice stated: “The key finalized by the Experts after the challenge will be final.”
NTA also said: “No individual candidate will be informed about the acceptance/non-acceptance of his/her challenge.” Results were prepared using the finalized keys. The notices do not provide a challenge acceptance count, so the outcome totals cannot be used to calculate a challenge success rate or determine how an individual challenge affected a score. NTA’s challenge notices set out these terms.

Where can candidates find official June 2024 records?
Use the NTA UGC-NET website and its archive for official notices and records, including the June 2024 final answer keys, result, extension notice, and challenge notices. The official answer-key page may foreground newer cycles, while retaining June 2024 certificate and scorecard links. For candidate-specific records, use the relevant June 2024 links on NTA’s site rather than unofficial answer-key copies.
