What the report said about UBL and Netflix
TechJuice reported that UBL customers could not use the bank to pay for Netflix at the time because of a technical and security-related snag. The explanation was attributed to an unnamed UBL customer-support representative. The article said a UBL spokesman was unavailable for comment, so this should be understood as a reported explanation—not a confirmed bank announcement. Read the TechJuice report.

The same report said the situation had been cleared up, but did not give a precise date or provide a dated confirmation. Its age is described relatively on the page, so it should not be treated as evidence of UBL’s current Netflix payment policy.
Why UBL’s reported explanation differed from Meezan’s
The TechJuice article discussed Meezan Bank separately, saying Meezan cited Shariah-compliance guidelines for its decision. It described UBL’s reported issue instead as technical and security-related. These are distinct accounts from the article; one bank’s stated rationale should not be applied to the other.

Does UBL currently allow Netflix payments?
The available current UBL information describes card and e-commerce capabilities generally, not Netflix acceptance specifically. UBL’s fee schedule and UnionPay International Debit Card page therefore do not confirm that Netflix will accept a particular UBL card, card scheme, account, or recurring charge. See UBL’s July–December 2026 Schedule of Charges and its UnionPay International Debit Card information. Current acceptance remains unconfirmed by these sources.
Why a UBL card payment may fail
A failed charge is not, by itself, evidence of a bank-wide block or a content-related restriction. Netflix’s general troubleshooting guidance lists several possible payment problems:

- The card is expired, invalid, or has been replaced.
- Available funds are insufficient.
- The card does not support e-commerce transactions or recurring billing.
- International transactions are unsupported or disabled.
- The financial institution declines the charge for security reasons.
For an account on hold, Netflix says it may retry a failed payment periodically during the billing cycle. Updating or changing the payment method, or contacting the financial institution, may help identify the issue. This is general Netflix guidance, not a diagnosis of a UBL transaction. What to do if your UBL card is declined
- Check the payment details. Confirm the card information and billing details entered in Netflix are accurate and current.
- Check the card and account. Confirm with UBL that the card is valid, has available funds, and supports e-commerce and recurring payments.
- Ask about international transactions. If the card or account requires international transactions to be enabled, ask UBL whether that setting applies to this charge.
- Ask UBL to check the authorization attempt. Find out whether UBL can see Netflix’s attempted charge and, if so, what decline reason it records. This can help distinguish a bank-side decline from another payment problem.
- Follow Netflix’s payment guidance. Netflix says, “If you’re still having trouble, make sure your payment method supports e-commerce transactions.” Its broader billing and payments guidance can help with payment-method issues.
