The company also announced restructuring and selective studio closures, but no single company-wide job-loss total has been established. A later report of up to 200 potentially affected positions concerned a voluntary proposal for employees at Ubisoft International’s French headquarters—not 200 confirmed layoffs.
What Ubisoft announced in its 2026 reset
On January 21, Ubisoft announced an organizational, operational and portfolio reset built around a new operating model, a revised three-year game roadmap and efforts to reduce the size and cost of the organization. CEO Yves Guillemot said the move was intended to create conditions for a return to sustainable growth. The announcement gives the company’s rationale and objectives; it does not establish that the changes will achieve them. Ubisoft’s announcement cited a more selective AAA market, competition in shooters, rising development costs and difficulty building brands at higher costs.
The main portfolio decisions were distinct: six games were discontinued, while seven others were given additional development time to meet quality benchmarks and maximize long-term value. Ubisoft said one unannounced game originally planned for FY2025–26 moved to FY2026–27. It did not identify that game or name the seven delayed titles.
Which games were cancelled?
The only cancelled project Ubisoft identified by name was the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake. The other five were four unannounced projects—including three new intellectual properties—and a mobile title. Ubisoft did not disclose their identities, so claims assigning names to those projects should not be treated as confirmed.

- If what you want is quality at the best price do not keep looking!
The Prince of Persia team said it could not reach the quality expected of the remake and that continuing would have required more time and investment than it could responsibly commit. “We didn’t want to release something that fell short of what The Sands of Time represents,” the team said in a statement reproduced by PC Gamer.
How many Ubisoft developers are losing their jobs?
The announced reset included continued restructuring and selective studio closures, but the available announcement and reporting do not establish one final, company-wide job-loss figure. Windows Central reported closures in Halifax and Stockholm and cuts affecting Massive Entertainment, Ubisoft Abu Dhabi and RedLynx. Those reports do not add up to a confirmed total for all Ubisoft employees.

A subsequent report said Ubisoft International proposed seeking voluntary mutual termination agreements that could affect up to 200 positions at its French headquarters. Ubisoft said the proposal was not final: it would require a collective agreement with employee representatives and validation by French authorities, and applied to Ubisoft International employees under French contracts. GamesRadar+ described the proposal; it should not be read as 200 confirmed layoffs.
What the five-house operating model means
Ubisoft said its new structure would consist of five Creative Houses, a Creative Network of studios, shared Core Services and a reshaped headquarters. The houses are intended to combine development and go-to-market responsibilities, with accountability for brand development, content strategy, editorial direction and financial performance. Ubisoft said the model would begin operating in early April 2026.

The cost target is a company goal, not a reported result
Ubisoft set a target to cut its fixed cost base by an additional €200 million over two years. It described that as part of a total fixed-cost reduction of around €500 million since FY2022–23. These figures are company targets and reported historical totals in the reset announcement, not independently audited outcomes established by that announcement.
