What AJ Investments was asking Ubisoft to do
On September 26, 2024, the Slovakia-based investor urged Ubisoft management to permit a sale to a third party or private-equity firm at what it called a fair price. Reuters reported the appeal and AJ’s claim that it had support from 10% of shareholders. AJ was also talking with private-equity firms, Reuters reported. Reuters via Yahoo Finance, September 26, 2024
“We call on the management of Ubisoft to allow the sale of the company to third parties or private equity firms at a fair price.”
That was an activist demand, not an announcement that Ubisoft had agreed to sell. Reuters reported AJ’s own stake as less than 1%, distinct from the broader 10% support figure. The report attributed that support figure to AJ’s letter; it did not independently establish the backing through a verified shareholder register.

Could 10% support force a sale?
The available information does not show that the claimed 10% bloc could force Ubisoft to sell. Ubisoft says shareholders may attend shareholder meetings regardless of the size of their holdings and vote on resolutions submitted to those meetings. That describes a channel for participation and voting, but it does not establish that AJ’s claimed coalition could compel a sale or that it won a vote. Ubisoft Investor Center
In other words, “10% support” indicates the scale of backing AJ said it had gathered for its proposal. It should not be read as proof that shareholders had approved a transaction, that AJ controlled 10% of Ubisoft, or that a sale was inevitable.

What happened after the 2024 campaign
A reported buyout discussion was tentative
In October 2024, the Associated Press reported Bloomberg’s account that Tencent and the Guillemot family were discussing a possible buyout. Ubisoft declined to comment, and Tencent did not immediately respond, according to AP. That report described tentative discussions, not a completed sale. Associated Press, October 4, 2024
Tencent later invested in a subsidiary, not all of Ubisoft
In March 2025, Ubisoft announced a €1.16 billion Tencent investment for an approximately 25% economic interest in a new subsidiary built around Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six. Ubisoft said it would retain exclusive control of the subsidiary and consolidate it. The company said its board had considered strategic options and approved the transaction. Is AJ’s 10% claim current?
No current status is established by the sources cited here. The 10% figure belongs to AJ Investments’ September 2024 statement and should not be presented as the level of support it has today. Ubisoft’s investor center lists its 2026 annual general meeting for September 30, 2026, but that meeting information does not confirm AJ’s campaign status or the outcome of any vote. A separate regulated declaration dated July 20, 2026, reported that Goldman Sachs Group held 12.45% of Ubisoft’s capital and 11.49% of its voting rights. The declaration said Goldman Sachs acted alone, did not intend to acquire control and had no specific strategy for Ubisoft.
