Uber’s reported valuation rose from $60 million in February 2011 to $40 billion by December 2014. The $50 billion figure reported in May 2015 was a proposed fundraising valuation—not a completed deal. In July, CNNMoney reported that Uber had closed a nearly $1 billion financing round at a valuation close to $51 billion.
Uber valuation timeline, 2011–2015
The figures below are reported private-financing valuations, not a continuous audited series or public-market share prices. Where a source specified a pre- or post-money basis, that distinction is noted; the basis was not stated for every milestone.

How the reported valuation climbed
From $60 million to $330 million in 2011
VentureBeat’s timeline puts Uber’s February 2011 financing at $11 million raised and a $60 million post-money valuation. In November, the company reportedly raised $37.5 million at a $330 million post-money valuation. The two figures are financing milestones, not appraisals of a publicly traded company.
A billion-dollar valuation in 2013
In August 2013, Uber reportedly raised about $350 million at a $3.5 billion valuation. VentureBeat’s timeline does not specify whether that figure was pre- or post-money, so it should not be compared as though its basis were established.

What the May 2015 $50 billion figure meant
On May 9–10, VentureBeat reported that Uber reportedly wanted to raise $1.5 billion to $2 billion at a $50 billion valuation. That was a report of a fundraising plan, not evidence that a $50 billion round had closed. VentureBeat also described Uber as serving 300 cities; that count is attributable to the article rather than an independently verified company figure in the sources cited here.

How to read this timeline
- Valuation is not the same as cash raised. The valuation is the reported worth assigned in a financing; the amount raised is the capital invested in that round.
- Pre-money and post-money are different measures. Uber explicitly called its June 2014 $17 billion figure pre-money. VentureBeat described the 2011 figures as post-money. For other dates, the basis is not stated in the cited accounts.
- A reported target is not a completed financing. The May 2015 $50 billion figure was a reported plan; the July report concerned a closed round at close to $51 billion.
- Private-company valuations are round-specific. These reported marks do not form a public share-price history or an audited, continuously measured series.
