Uber announced Uber Green for Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru in June 2023, giving riders an in-app way to request an all-electric car with zero tailpipe emissions. Its announcement outlined partnerships for fleets, vehicles, electric two-wheelers, financing and charging—but the deployment figures were targets, not proof of completed rollouts. A May 2026 agreement with JSW Group is a newer step, described as an exploration of locally suited EV solutions rather than a vehicle launch.
What Uber Green meant in India
Uber India’s 24 May 2023 announcement introduced Uber Green in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru as an on-demand option for an all-electric car. Uber described it as allowing passengers to request a vehicle with “zero tailpipe emission” through the app. That is a historical launch announcement; the sources cited here do not establish whether the option is currently available in those cities or elsewhere in India. Uber India’s launch announcement
The initiative was presented as an ecosystem effort, not simply a new ride category. Uber named fleet operators and an automaker for vehicle supply, a two-wheeler partner, a financing arrangement, and charging-network collaborations.
What Uber’s partners announced
| Area | Partner or partners | What Uber said in 2023 | What is established |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fleet deployment | Lithium Urban Technologies, Everest Fleet Private Limited and Moove | Uber said the partners would deploy 25,000 EVs across seven cities. | This was a company-announced target. The reviewed sources do not verify that it was completed. |
| Automaker relationship | Tata Motors | Uber said the fleet plan followed a February 2023 MoU for EV delivery. | The launch announcement does not identify vehicle models or how many vehicles were delivered under the MoU. |
| Electric two-wheelers | Zypp Electric | Uber said Zypp would deploy 10,000 electric two-wheelers on UberMoto by 2024, and reported that more than 1,000 were already deployed on UberMoto in Delhi at the time of the announcement. | These were figures reported by Uber in May 2023; the sources reviewed do not verify completion of the 10,000-vehicle target. |
| Financing | Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) | Uber said an MoU made Rs.1,000 crore in low-interest loans available to fleet partners buying EV and CNG vehicles. | “Available” does not mean the funds were disbursed or that partners borrowed the full amount. |
| Charging | bp pulse in partnership with JioBP, and GMR Green | Uber described collaborations intended to provide drivers access to high-speed charging. | The cited announcement does not establish current charger counts or network coverage. |
All the 2023 commitments and figures in the table are from Uber’s launch announcement. It is useful evidence of what the company planned, but it is not a subsequent deployment report.

What changed after the Uber Green launch
Uber’s global newsroom said on 23 September 2026 that Uber Green was rebranded to Uber Electric in 2025 and that the newer label includes only electric vehicles. This is a global statement: it does not confirm the current product name or availability in any particular Indian city. Uber’s global article on going electric
A separate India development came on 22 May 2026, when JSW Group announced a memorandum of understanding with Uber to explore localized EV solutions suited to Indian ride-hailing, including local price and performance expectations. The announcement does not name vehicle models, give a deployment total, or say that a vehicle program has launched. JSW Group’s announcement of its Uber MoU

The companies framed the agreement as exploratory. Uber India and South Asia President Prabhjeet Singh said the collaboration would explore solutions for Indian riders and drivers; JSW Group’s Parth Jindal described a plan to explore scalable EV mobility solutions. Those statements describe the partners’ aims, not measured results.
Zero tailpipe emissions are not zero lifecycle emissions
“Zero tailpipe” describes emissions from a vehicle’s onboard power source while it operates. It does not mean that manufacturing the vehicle, generating the electricity or fuel it uses, and disposing of it produce no emissions. Uber’s sustainability page makes that distinction in its definition of a zero-emission vehicle. Uber’s sustainability goals and definitions

On that page, Uber reports that average medium-size battery EVs registered today in India have 19%–34% lower lifetime emissions than comparable gasoline cars, summarizing analyses by independent experts. The cited page text does not identify the underlying studies, so the range should be read as Uber’s reported summary, not as a government finding or an independently verified estimate in this article.
Uber’s global goal is for 100% of rides and deliveries worldwide to be in zero-emission vehicles or through micromobility or public transit by the end of 2040. That is a company target spanning several transport modes, not a claim that the target has been achieved or that it applies only to electric cars.

India’s EV policy is broader context, not proof of Uber funding
India’s PM E-DRIVE scheme provides demand incentives for electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, ambulances and trucks, with incentives paid to consumers and reimbursed to original equipment manufacturers. In a 3 February 2026 release, the Ministry of Heavy Industries reported 22.12 lakh EVs sold under the scheme as of 27 January 2026, including 19.19 lakh electric two-wheelers and 2.93 lakh electric three-wheelers. The ministry also cited a Rs.2,000 crore allocation for public EV charging stations nationally. Ministry of Heavy Industries’ PM E-DRIVE update
These are national scheme figures, not evidence that PM E-DRIVE subsidized Uber’s announced fleet plans or any particular Uber partner.

How to interpret the initiative
- Confirmed as an announcement: Uber launched the Uber Green concept in three Indian cities in 2023 and named partners across the EV ecosystem.
- Not confirmed as completed: the 25,000-EV fleet plan and 10,000 electric two-wheeler target remain company-announced commitments in the sources cited here.
- Newer but exploratory: the 2026 JSW Group MoU concerns developing localized solutions; it is not proof of deployed vehicles.
- Availability remains unverified: the historical city list and global rebrand statement do not establish what riders can select in India today.
- Emissions claim has a defined boundary: zero tailpipe emissions do not equal zero emissions over a vehicle’s lifecycle.
