The UAW strike at CNH Industrial’s plants in Racine, Wisconsin, and Burlington, Iowa, began at noon on May 2, 2022, and ended when members ratified a new contract on January 21, 2023. Nothing in the available reporting indicates that the 2022 walkout continues. Racine later reached a separate agreement in 2026, which is covered in its own section below.
What the headline means
The headline’s phrase “vote to strike” is the wording used in a May 3, 2022 Successful Farming (Agriculture.com) report. That report describes a strike already under way rather than the vote that authorized it. It does not give the date, tally, or wording of any strike-authorization vote, so this article does not state those details.

Who was involved and how many workers
Three headcounts appear in the reporting. They come from different dates and sources, so they are not directly comparable.

The available reporting does not supply an independent estimate of the strike’s economic cost, and no settlement amount for the 2023 contract has been published in the sources cited here.

What the union and the company said
The union’s position
Chuck Browning, then UAW vice president and director of the Agricultural Implement Department, said in the May 2022 report: “Our members at CNH Industrial strike for the ability to earn a decent living, retire with dignity, and establish fair work rules.” The same report describes the workers’ aims as a better standard of living, retirement benefits, and a better work environment. These are the union’s stated goals, not an independent finding about the company.
The company’s position
CNH’s statement, as reproduced in the May 2022 report, read: “CNH Industrial is disappointed that the parties were unable to reach an agreement and that the UAW has decided to call a strike.” The company also said it remained committed to reaching an agreement and to resolving the issue.

How the 2022–2023 strike ended
CNH’s January 23, 2023 announcement said the new labor contract covers employees at the Racine, Wisconsin, and Burlington, Iowa, plants and ends the ongoing strike. CEO Scott W. Wine thanked the bargaining team, UAW leadership, and then-U.S. Labor Secretary Martin Walsh, saying: “I would like to thank our bargaining team, the UAW leadership, and Mr. Walsh, who helped us navigate the complexities of the negotiation process and end the strike.” The Associated Press reported that workers had rejected an earlier offer on January 7, 2023, and approved the new deal on January 21, but its account does not set out the final contract terms.
What is not public about the 2023 contract
The contract’s specific terms, such as wage schedules, retirement provisions, and work-rule changes, do not appear in the reporting cited here. Company and union statements describe the goals and the outcome, but readers should not assume any particular term without a primary document from the parties.

The separate 2026 Racine agreement
A later dispute at the Racine plant is distinct from the 2022–2023 strike. On May 4, 2026, the UAW announced a tentative agreement covering approximately 300 members. CNH reported that Local 180 members ratified a five-year agreement on May 9, 2026, with wage increases over the life of the contract of 22% for production employees and 29% for skilled trades. These percentages are company-reported figures for Racine only, not for the Burlington plant, and they are not independently verified.
