House Democrats’ February 11, 2026, letter to the Commerce Department acting inspector general says Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE’s national security adviser, controls G42 and identifies Aryam as the investment firm. The letter, citing the Journal’s reporting, says an initial $250 million installment included $187 million directed to Trump-family entities and $31 million to entities affiliated with Steve Witkoff’s family. Why did lawmakers ask for an investigation?
The House Democrats’ letter says 500,000 advanced AI chips were approved for sale to the UAE in May 2025, including 100,000 cleared for direct sale to G42. The letter raises a question about possible influence; it does not establish that the investment caused or changed a government decision.

The reported 49% stake was an equity investment in World Liberty Financial. A separate transaction involved a $2 billion MGX investment in Binance using World Liberty’s USD1 stablecoin, according to the Associated Press. AP reported that World Liberty could place the dollars it received into investments such as bonds or money-market funds and keep the interest.
