U.S. video game hardware spending edged up about 0.3% in November 2024, reaching $927 million from $924 million a year earlier. That near-flat total masked sharply different results by console: PS5 dollar sales rose 15%, while Nintendo Switch fell 3% and Xbox Series fell 29%. These are historical U.S. point-of-sale estimates for the four weeks from November 3 through November 30, 2024—not a measure of current demand or buying advice.
What the November 2024 hardware figures show
Circana figures reported by Insider Gaming put U.S. hardware spending at $927 million, compared with $924 million in November 2023. The difference is about 0.3%, so “roughly flat, up about 0.3%” best describes the result. Another recap characterized the total as flat at $927 million.
Spending measures dollars, not consoles sold. On the unit measure, about 2.4 million hardware units sold in November 2024, versus 2.3 million in November 2023, according to Circana figures reported by TipRanks/TheFly. The two measures can move differently: a higher-priced mix of products can lift dollar sales without a comparable increase in units.
How the major console platforms performed
The year-over-year changes below are in dollar sales, not unit sales. Circana figures reported by VGChartz and Insider Gaming show a clear split among the leading platforms.

The reported platform rankings apply to both units and dollars. The percentages describe dollar-sales changes only; they do not establish how many units each platform sold or explain why a platform’s sales changed.
What the PS5 Pro launch contributed
Sony launched the PS5 Pro during November 2024. It accounted for 19% of PS5 unit sales and 28% of PS5 dollar sales that month, according to Circana figures reported by VGChartz. That larger share of dollars than units is consistent with the Pro being a higher-priced part of the PS5 mix. The launch is a plausible contributor to PS5’s 15% dollar-sales growth, but the figures do not show that it alone caused either that increase or the nearly flat market-wide total.

November’s result in the broader market
Overall U.S. video-game spending across hardware, content and accessories fell 7% to about $5.8 billion in November 2024, according to Circana reporting reproduced by VGChartz and TipRanks/TheFly. Content spending declined 9%, while accessories grew 4% to $373 million. Hardware’s near-flat result therefore stood apart from the broader monthly decline.
Circana Executive Director and Video Game Industry Analyst Mat Piscatella attributed part of the broader comparison to release timing: Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 launched in October 2024, while Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III fell within the November 2023 tracking period. He said: “Projected November 2024 U.S. consumer spending on video game hardware, content and accessories fell 7% when compared to a year ago, to $5.8 billion,” and “Year-to-date spending is flat to last year.” The quotation concerns overall consumer spending, not hardware alone.

Why a small monthly increase does not mean hardware demand accelerated
The near-flat November spending total is a single four-week comparison, not evidence of a broad or sustained hardware upswing. Two of the three major platforms posted lower dollar sales, and year-to-date hardware volume was also lower.
Through November 2024, 9.4 million hardware units had sold, compared with 11.8 million through the same point in 2023 in the VGChartz recap. Insider Gaming reported the earlier figure as 11.7 million, a minor rounding or reporting difference. The November figures do not establish the reason for the year-to-date decline, nor do they tell readers whether current console prices or availability are favorable.
