The headline figure refers to the initial damages demands in two separate lawsuits against Tyler Perry: actor Derek Dixon sought at least $260 million, and actor Mario Rodriguez initially sought at least $77 million. Together, those requests totaled $337 million—not a court award or a verified current total. Later reporting says Rodriguez withdrew his original $77 million demand when he amended his complaint.
What the two lawsuits allege
| Plaintiff | Filing and defendants | Initial damages demand | Reported allegations |
|---|---|---|---|
| Derek Dixon | Filed in Los Angeles Superior Court in June 2025 against Perry. | At least $260 million, as reported by the Associated Press. | Dixon alleged that Perry used his position in the entertainment industry to create a coercive dynamic involving promised career opportunities, escalating sexual harassment and assault, and professional retaliation connected to Dixon’s work on The Oval. These are allegations in a complaint, not findings of fact. The Associated Press quoted the complaint’s account of the alleged dynamic and career promises in its report. |
| Mario Rodriguez | Filed in California in December 2025 against Perry and Lionsgate. | At least $77 million initially, as reported by the Associated Press. | Rodriguez alleged unwanted sexual advances and assault over several years, including incidents he said took place at Perry’s Los Angeles home. Perry’s lawyer denied the allegations, according to the Associated Press. |
The cases involve different plaintiffs, allegations and defendants; the initial figures should not be treated as a single claim. The $337 million total is simply the sum of the two original demands. It is not an award, a finding of liability, or the amount Rodriguez is still reported to be seeking.
Why the $300 million figure is no longer a current combined demand
In August 2026, MyNewsLA reported that Rodriguez amended his suit and withdrew his initial $77 million damages demand. Perry’s lawyers characterized the revised allegations as false, the outlet reported. That withdrawal changes the arithmetic behind the headline, but it does not establish a new combined damages figure: the reporting cited here does not state a revised Rodriguez demand or confirm the current demand in each case.
Earlier, the Associated Press reported messages in which Rodriguez contacted Perry after the period when Rodriguez said their interactions had ended, including messages expressing gratitude and financial distress. That is reported context that the parties may interpret differently; the messages alone do not resolve whether the alleged conduct occurred.

What has happened procedurally
Rodriguez’s case was removed to federal court in February 2026. A federal court order dated March 10 raised questions about jurisdiction, and a docket listing records a remand transmission in April. The docket page warns that newer entries may exist. In July, TMZ reported that a Perry filing disputed Rodriguez’s account of a deposition dispute and sought $7,300 in sanctions. These procedural reports and party filings are not decisions on the truth of the allegations.
The sources available do not establish a final merits ruling or the complete procedural status of both cases as of October 8, 2026. A docket entry or a lawyer’s argument should not be mistaken for a court’s resolution of the underlying claims.

What the amounts do—and do not—mean
- At least $260 million: Dixon’s initial requested damages, as reported by the Associated Press in 2025.
- At least $77 million: Rodriguez’s initial requested damages, as reported by the Associated Press in 2025; MyNewsLA later reported he withdrew that demand in an amended complaint.
- $337 million: the arithmetic total of those two initial requests, not a separate lawsuit, verdict, award, or verified current combined demand.
A damages request is what a plaintiff asks for, not money a court has ordered a defendant to pay. The reported figures do not show what either plaintiff may ultimately recover, if anything.

Perry’s side has denied allegations in the Rodriguez case and disputed aspects of reported proceedings. The plaintiffs’ accusations remain allegations, and the reviewed reporting does not establish that a judge has determined them to be true or false. The latest reported change to the headline arithmetic is Rodriguez’s withdrawal of his original $77 million demand; the complete October 2026 status of both cases is not established by the available docket and reporting.
