The Tudor Oyster Submariner 7923 featured in a 2017 eBay story sold for $99,999—not more than $100,000. The watch was described as exceptionally well preserved, not beaten-up. A dealer later asked $350,000 for it, but that was an asking price, not a reported sale. Those figures concern one particular watch and do not establish what a damaged 7923 is worth today.
Did the Tudor 7923 sell for more than $100,000 on eBay?
No. Hodinkee reported that the particular Tudor Oyster Submariner reference 7923 sold on eBay in late March 2017 for $99,999. According to the article, an eBay bidding safeguard required bidders to telephone its fraud-protection unit to bid into six figures, preventing a higher sale price.
Hodinkee later reported that dealer HQ Milton offered the same watch for $350,000. That was a dealer asking price; the report does not say the watch sold for that amount. A listing price should not be confused with a completed transaction.
Was the eBay watch beaten-up?
No. Hodinkee described the 2017 example as apparently untouched and exceptionally well preserved. Calling that watch “beaten-up” misstates the report. Its high result is not a direct comparison for a worn or damaged 7923.

What is a Tudor Submariner 7923?
The 7923 is notable in Tudor Submariner history because it was the only Submariner in the line equipped with a manually wound movement, according to Tudor’s 2014 official history. The watch used a hand-wound ETA calibre 1182, beating at 18,000 beats per hour, with a black lacquered dial and baton hands.
Tudor’s historical specification rated the 7923 to 100 metres when new, with a screw-down case back and crown and a domed crystal. That is not evidence that a surviving vintage watch remains water-resistant. Do not take an old example into water based on its original rating; have its condition assessed by a qualified watch specialist.

Among the early references, Tudor’s history distinguishes the models this way:
| Reference | Distinguishing detail in Tudor’s history |
|---|---|
| 7922 | Water resistance to 100 metres |
| 7923 | Manually wound movement |
| 7924 | Water resistance to 200 metres |
| 7925 | Shared the 7924’s characteristics but rated to 100 metres |
Phillips describes the 7923 as a mid-1950s model, with a small Brevet-plus crown and a flat case associated with its manual movement. Its catalogue notes that examples exist both with and without red depth text on the dial, so the “100/330” marking is not the only reported configuration.

What do other 7923 auction results say about value?
Other reported results show why a single headline figure cannot serve as a valuation for every example. The watches below are different pieces, sold in different years and settings, and described in different condition. They are individual outcomes, not a market-wide price range or formula.
| Example and transaction | Reported result | Condition details reported by the source |
|---|---|---|
| eBay example reported by Hodinkee, 2017 | $99,999 sale price | Described as apparently untouched and exceptionally well preserved; the same watch was later offered by a dealer for $350,000, an asking price rather than a reported sale. |
| Separate circa-1955 example, Heritage Auctions, June 3, 2025 | $131,250 sale price | Heritage described strong unpolished lug bevels, original crown and bezel, slight consistent lume loss, a case-back scratch, and a movement that ran and set. It recommended service for daily use. |
| Separate example, Antiquorum Geneva, May 10, 2025 | CHF 11,250 sale price; estimate CHF 5,000–8,000 | The listing described a slightly scratched case, a very good but slightly oxidized service dial, service hands, and an overhaul recommended at the buyer’s expense. |
Heritage says its condition statements are guidance, not warranties, and that lots are sold as-is. Auction descriptions are the auction house’s assessments; they are not independent authentication or a guarantee of future performance.

What should you check before buying or selling a 7923?
A watch-specific assessment matters more than a comparison with a headline result. Useful details to document and discuss with a specialist include:
- Dial and lume: Whether the dial is original or a service replacement, whether red depth text is present, and the visible condition of the dial and lume. Phillips described an original gilt dial with oxidized lume on its example, while Antiquorum identified a service dial on another.
- Hands, crown, and bezel: Record whether each component is believed to be original or a replacement. Heritage described original pencil hands, crown, and bezel on its example; Antiquorum listed service hands on a different watch.
- Case and polishing: Note scratches and whether polishing has softened the case’s shape or removed the lug bevels. Phillips reported light past polishing while noting the bevels remained on its example; Heritage described strong, unpolished bevels on its separate lot.
- Movement and service: Ask whether the watch runs and sets, and whether a specialist recommends an overhaul. Heritage reported that its movement ran and set but recommended service for daily use; Antiquorum recommended an overhaul at the buyer’s expense for its lot.
- Bracelet and accessories: State exactly what is included and whether it is original. Gardiner Houlgate described a non-original expanding bracelet with a different 7923.
- Provenance: Separate documentary evidence from a seller’s account. Gardiner Houlgate reported that its separate lot had passed through a family; that does not verify the history of the 2017 eBay watch.
A loupe can help you see small visible details, but it cannot authenticate a watch, establish movement condition, or determine value. For a sale, consider seeking an in-person assessment and current estimate from a qualified specialist or comparing specialist auction or consignment estimates. No cited result establishes what an unspecified damaged example would sell for, or what its net proceeds would be after fees.

How should a seller interpret the headline prices?
For personal-finance purposes, distinguish three different things: a completed sale, an estimate, and an asking price. The eBay figure and the two 2025 auction figures are reported completed results for specific watches. The $350,000 figure is a reported dealer ask. None establishes the likely sale price of a different watch, particularly one with unknown originality, condition, service needs, or provenance.
Before setting expectations, gather records and have the specific watch examined. A specialist can assess its components and condition and provide a current estimate; any eventual proceeds will also depend on the sale route and its fees, which are not established by the cited reports.
