What TSMC has reported—and what is still a forecast
Reuters reported that TSMC’s preliminary third-quarter revenue was NT$1.49 trillion (US$46.71 billion). That was 50% higher year over year, above the company’s July revenue outlook of US$44.6 billion to US$45.8 billion, and ahead of the NT$1.46 trillion LSEG SmartEstimate based on 19 analysts. Revenue is not net income. As of October 12, TSMC had not announced third-quarter net income. The LSEG SmartEstimate cited in the same report put profit at NT$740.8 billion, up 64% from a year earlier. That is an analyst forecast, not company guidance or a reported result. How the profit estimate compares with recent results
The estimate would be higher than both TSMC’s second-quarter 2026 net income of NT$706.56 billion and its third-quarter 2025 net income of NT$452.30 billion. Those comparisons make another quarterly record plausible, but they do not establish that one has occurred. The actual October 15 result is needed to determine whether profit beats the prior quarter and the year-ago period.

The cited figures come from TSMC’s Q3 2025 earnings release, its Q2 2026 earnings release, and Reuters’ October 8 report. The available figures do not provide a complete historical series to independently verify every quarter in a six-quarter record streak. Until the result and full comparison history are checked, “sixth straight quarter” should be understood as the preview’s forecast framing, not a confirmed achievement.
Why AI is part of the earnings story
Reuters linked the revenue surge to strong demand for AI applications. TSMC’s Q2 release also described strong demand for leading-edge process technologies. Together, these support the view that AI-related orders and advanced-chip production are important demand drivers.

They do not show how much of the projected profit growth comes from AI specifically. The available information does not isolate AI’s contribution from factors such as product mix, factory utilization, currency, ramp costs, or margins. TSMC’s CFO, Wendell Huang, said in the Q2 release: “Our business in the second quarter was supported by strong demand for our leading-edge process technologies.” That was a statement about the second quarter, not a new comment on Q3. What to check when TSMC reports
A revenue beat does not guarantee a profit beat or higher margins. TSMC’s July outlook set Q3 gross margin at 65% to 67% and operating margin at 56% to 58%. In Q2 2026, actual gross margin was 66.6% and operating margin was 50.6%, according to the company’s Q2 release. Compare the October result with the relevant guidance and prior-quarter figures rather than inferring profitability from sales alone.
