Kamala Harris’s campaign reported more money than Donald Trump’s: the Federal Election Commission’s final candidate-receipts table lists $1,175,189,103 for Harris and $474,871,587 for Trump through December 31, 2024. That is a difference of $700,317,516. These are receipts reported by their authorized candidate committees, not totals for every allied political group.
How much did Harris and Trump raise?
The Federal Election Commission (FEC) table, Presidential Campaign Receipts Through December 31, 2024, lists these candidate committee receipts. The table was generated March 24, 2025.
| Candidate | Receipts through Dec. 31, 2024 |
|---|---|
| Kamala Harris | $1,175,189,103 |
| Donald Trump | $474,871,587 |
| Harris’s lead | $700,317,516 |
On that like-for-like measure, Harris’s committee reported about 2.5 times Trump’s receipts. The comparison covers the 2023–2024 election cycle, from January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2024, rather than only fundraising after the candidates became their parties’ nominees. The FEC’s 24-month campaign activity summary reports $2,012.0 million in receipts across all 2024 presidential candidates during that period.
Why does Harris’s total include Biden-era fundraising?
The FEC says the Harris figure includes activity from before the Biden for President committee was renamed Harris for President on July 21, 2024. It is the continuous reporting history of the authorized committee, not money raised solely after Harris became the Democratic nominee.

The FEC candidate overview separately displays $1,175,189,365.41 as total receipts by Harris’s authorized committees over the same dates. That differs slightly from the whole-dollar figure in the final receipts table. Because the pages can reflect different update timing and presentation, use the amount from the specific table you cite rather than combining the two figures.

“Receipts” are money reported as received by a candidate’s authorized committees. The FEC table answers which candidate committee reported more; it is not a complete accounting of every dollar raised or spent by the broader political operation around either candidate.
Rank #2
- Candidate committee receipts: The comparable amounts in the FEC table above.
- Party committees and joint fundraising committees: These are outside the candidate-only comparison. ProPublica’s FEC Itemizer presidential candidate summaries likewise describe candidate figures that do not include party committee or joint fundraising committee totals.
- Outside spending: Independent expenditures are spending by other organizations, not receipts paid to or spending directly from a candidate’s committee. The FEC’s candidate overview distinguishes outside spending from candidate receipts.
- Spending and cash on hand: These are different measures from receipts. A candidate’s receipts do not show how much the campaign spent or how much remained in its accounts.
A comparison of a wider party-aligned operation can produce different totals, but it must name the organizations included and use the same reporting dates for each candidate. Mixing candidate receipts with party fundraising, outside spending, or cash on hand would not be an apples-to-apples answer to which campaign raised more.
