Trump Media & Technology Group, Truth Social’s parent, was still operating and developing products in 2026, so “dying startup” is not an established description of its status. But the latest results reported here show a business under serious financial strain: Associated Press reported $1.7 million in revenue and a $238 million loss for the second quarter of 2026.
What is Truth Social, and who operates it?
Truth Social is the social media platform operated by Trump Media & Technology Group Corp. (TMTG), the company associated with Donald Trump. TMTG also operates Truth+, a streaming service, according to its 2025 Form 10-K. The distinction matters: figures about TMTG are company-level results, not a separate financial statement for Truth Social alone.
The 2024 Futurism headline called the business a “dying startup” in the context of an argument about its finances and Trump’s ideas for the company. That phrase was a rhetorical characterization, not a confirmed corporate status. Its share-price, user-count, and stake-value observations were snapshots from September 2024; they should not be read as current figures.
What do the reported financial results show?
The figures available from the two periods below point to low revenue relative to reported losses. They cover different periods and come from different reporting contexts, so they are not a like-for-like measure of performance over time.

| Period | Revenue | Loss | Reporting context |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fiscal year 2023 | $4.1 million | $58 million | TMTG results reported by Futurism in 2024; the loss was also reported by Associated Press in 2024. |
| Second quarter 2026 | $1.7 million | $238 million | TMTG results reported by Associated Press on August 10, 2026. |
The 2023 figures are historical, not a description of the company’s current finances. The second-quarter 2026 loss is substantially larger than revenue for that quarter, but these figures alone do not establish whether TMTG can meet its obligations, how much cash it has available, or whether it will close. They do support describing the company as financially troubled.
Is the company still operating?
Yes, the evidence here does not show that TMTG had shut down. Its 2025 Form 10-K describes continuing development and availability changes for Truth Social and Truth+. The company’s second-quarter 2026 Form 10-Q says it launched Truth API on August 1, 2026. The service is a business-to-business subscription feed that provides licensed, low-latency access to certain publicly available Truth Social posts.
TMTG’s newsroom also listed its second-quarter 2026 results and a September 30, 2026 merger-registration announcement. Those filings and announcements show ongoing operations and corporate activity; they do not prove that the products are commercially successful or that the company is financially secure.
What is TMTG’s stated plan?
Associated Press reported on August 10, 2026 that TMTG planned to largely abandon several non-media ventures and refocus on social media. CEO Kevin McGurn described the move as a strategic pivot, telling AP: “We made the disciplined choice to pivot in order to invest more time and resources in our most important initiatives.” He also said, “We will say no to things or change course as warranted.”

That is management’s stated plan, not evidence that the pivot has succeeded. TMTG’s 2026 quarterly filing cautions that forward-looking statements involve risks and that actual results could differ materially from its plans.

Read it as dated commentary about a company facing questions over its finances and direction—not as a current report that TMTG is dying or about to close. The 2024 article’s price, user, and ownership-value claims are too time-sensitive to reuse as present-day facts. For a current assessment, separate what the company is doing from whether it is earning enough to support those activities: TMTG continued operating products and announced plans in 2026, while AP reported a large quarterly loss alongside low revenue.

For personal-finance readers, a dramatic headline is not a substitute for evaluating a public company’s filings, reporting period, business risks, and uncertainty. A loss in one quarter does not by itself prove imminent failure; continued product launches do not by themselves demonstrate a viable business.
