Trump Gold Card: Does the $5 Million Visa Buy U.S. Citizenship?

The Trump Gold Card is described as a possible route to permanent residence, not citizenship. The $5 million figure is for the proposed Platinum Card, which the program site labels “Coming Soon.”

No. The official Trump Gold Card site describes a possible route to lawful permanent residence, not an instant path to U.S. citizenship. It lists a $1 million gift and a $15,000 nonrefundable processing fee for an individual applicant. The $5 million figure belongs to a different proposal—the Platinum Card—which the site labels “Coming Soon.”

What does the $5 million figure buy?

According to the Trump Gold Card program site, the proposed Platinum Card would require a $5 million contribution and allow up to 270 days of U.S. residence without U.S. tax on non-U.S. income. The site labels it “Coming Soon,” so those terms should not be treated as a currently available benefit or as terms of the individual Gold Card.

The individual Gold Card offer described on the site is different: it is a visa route that may lead to lawful permanent resident status, subject to eligibility, admissibility, visa availability, vetting and adjudication. It does not directly confer citizenship.

What does the Gold Card cost?

The program site’s stated individual charges are a $15,000 nonrefundable Department of Homeland Security processing fee and, after vetting, a $1 million gift. The site describes the gift as evidence of a substantial benefit to the United States. Additional State Department fees may apply, depending on the circumstances.

Spouse and children

The site says an applicant may include a spouse and unmarried children under 21 in the initial application. It lists an additional $15,000 processing fee and $1 million gift for each included family member. On those stated amounts, each qualifying family member adds $1.015 million before any additional State Department charges.

Corporate sponsorship

For corporate sponsorship, the site lists a $15,000 processing fee and a $2 million gift per employee, plus a 1% annual maintenance fee and a 5% transfer fee for the corporate card. Those are the site’s stated terms; the 1% and 5% figures should not be mistaken for individual Gold Card charges.

These amounts and availability reflect the program site as accessed October 8, 2026. The site’s terms may change, and fees or gifts do not guarantee approval.

What immigration status does the Gold Card offer?

The program site says a successful applicant receives lawful permanent resident status as an EB-1 or EB-2 visa holder, as DHS determines and subject to visa availability. The applicant must qualify for permanent residence and be admissible to the United States. The final result depends on government review and adjudication, not simply on making a payment.

The site describes a process involving an application and fee, vetting, a gift after vetting, petition approval and visa adjudication, and an interview. It estimates that processing should take weeks when applications and documents are submitted promptly. That is the site’s conditional estimate, not a guaranteed timeline.

Does permanent residence mean citizenship?

No. Lawful permanent residence (LPR) is immigration status; U.S. citizenship is a separate legal status. Most permanent residents who seek citizenship must apply for naturalization and meet its eligibility requirements. The Gold Card site does not say that the card itself makes a holder a citizen or guarantees future naturalization.

The general five-year naturalization route

USCIS describes a general route that, among other requirements, calls for an applicant to be at least 18 when filing and to have been a lawful permanent resident for at least five years. The general route also includes continuous residence, at least 30 months of physical presence during that five-year period, three months of residence in the relevant state or USCIS district, good moral character, English and civics requirements, and attachment to the principles of the U.S. Constitution. Exceptions and modified routes exist, so the five-year framework is not universal.

Application, interview and oath

USCIS’s “Naturalization: What to Expect” overview describes an application process that may include biometrics, an interview, and English and civics testing, followed by an oath ceremony if the application is approved. USCIS states: “You are not a U.S. citizen until you take the Oath of Allegiance at a naturalization ceremony.”

Is this the same as the EB-5 investor visa?

No. The Gold Card site describes an unrestricted gift and possible classification as an EB-1 or EB-2 visa holder. USCIS describes EB-5 as a separate immigrant-investor program based on investment in a U.S. commercial enterprise and a plan to create or preserve at least 10 permanent, full-time jobs for qualified U.S. workers. A Gold Card gift is not the same thing as an EB-5 investment, and the two routes should not be treated as interchangeable.

Naturalization details are attributed to USCIS’s naturalization fact sheet and “Naturalization: What to Expect” page; the EB-5 distinction is based on USCIS’s “EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program” page, accessed October 8, 2026.
