Trezor is removing CryptoBilis from its reseller list and reducing its wider authorized-reseller network after reports that tampered Ledger wallets were sold through the same reseller. Trezor says the move is precautionary: it has reported no compromised Trezor devices from CryptoBilis, and it has not disclosed how many other partners will lose authorization.
What Trezor announced
The Block reported on October 13, 2026, that Trezor removed CryptoBilis from its reseller list and is shrinking its broader reseller network. The reported partner terms say affected resellers will lose authorization on January 1, 2027. They will receive no new Trezor stock but may sell inventory already in their possession until that date.

The announcement does not identify every affected reseller or state how large the reduction will be. CryptoBilis should therefore not be treated as the only partner whose authorization is ending.

The Block attributed the explanation to Danny Sanders, Trezor’s chief commercial officer. “There is not a single piece of evidence that Trezor devices have been compromised,” Sanders said. He described the reseller changes as “a preventive step, taken out of an abundance of caution.”

Trezor’s reported statement about CryptoBilis is narrower than a blanket safety guarantee: the company said it had no reports of tampered Trezor devices from that reseller. That means no such reports were known to Trezor in the statement reported, not that every item ever distributed through a reseller can be presumed risk-free.
What happened with Ledger devices sold by CryptoBilis?
The incident prompting the change concerns Ledger hardware wallets, not a reported compromise of Trezor wallets. The Block reported that Ledger confirmed an unauthorized implant in a hardware wallet sold through CryptoBilis. According to Ledger’s account as relayed by the report, the implant captured a recovery phrase during setup and transmitted it over LTE.

Ledger also reportedly said that confirmed cases involved devices sold through CryptoBilis, while its own systems and direct sales channels were unaffected. Those technical and scope descriptions come from Ledger as reported by The Block; the underlying Ledger technical statement was not available in the material reviewed for this article.

Why a hardware-wallet implant is serious
A hardware wallet is designed to keep private keys isolated from ordinary internet-connected software. A malicious component present before or during setup can undermine that protection at the moment a user enters a recovery phrase. Once a recovery phrase is exposed, an attacker may be able to control the associated assets, regardless of whether the wallet’s exterior and software appear genuine.

How large were the reported losses?
The financial impact is still developing, and published figures are estimates rather than a final total confirmed by Ledger. CoinMarketCap Academy reported Bitquery’s estimate that about $102 million was taken from 324 wallets across six blockchains. The same report said Tether froze $10 million in USDT.
Those numbers should be read as attributed on-chain estimates from 2026 reporting. They can change as investigators identify additional wallets, distinguish related transactions, or exclude funds that were later recovered or frozen.

What the reseller change means for buyers
Trezor’s action changes how shoppers should evaluate a seller, but it does not establish that Trezor’s devices were compromised. A reseller can lose authorization for risk-management reasons even when there is no evidence that the manufacturer’s product was altered.

Checks to make before buying
- Check the manufacturer’s current authorized-reseller list. Use the list available at the time of purchase, because authorization status can change before January 1, 2027.
- Match the legal seller identity. The business name on the checkout page, invoice and payment descriptor should correspond to the authorized entity, rather than merely using a marketplace listing title or a familiar logo.
- Prefer a manufacturer-operated store when practical. Direct purchase can reduce uncertainty about the distribution chain, although buyers should still follow the manufacturer’s inspection and setup guidance.
- Inspect the package and device before setup. Do not enter a recovery phrase into a device with broken seals, unexplained modifications, missing packaging or instructions that differ from the manufacturer’s documented process.
- Never accept a recovery phrase supplied by a seller. Generate the phrase on the device during setup and keep it offline. A seller who already knows the phrase can control the wallet.
- Stop if anything is unusual. Contact the manufacturer through its official support channel before transferring funds if a device prompts for an unexpected phrase, uses unfamiliar software or appears altered.
What is known—and not known—about Trezor’s cuts
| Question | Reported answer |
|---|---|
| Was CryptoBilis removed from Trezor’s reseller list? | Yes, according to The Block’s October 13, 2026 report. |
| Did Trezor report a tampered device from CryptoBilis? | No; Trezor reportedly said it had no reports of tampered Trezor devices from that reseller. |
| Are other Trezor resellers affected? | Yes. Trezor is reportedly reducing its wider network, but the complete list and total number were not disclosed. |
| When does authorization end for affected partners? | January 1, 2027, under the terms reported by The Block. |
| Can affected partners sell existing stock? | They may reportedly sell inventory already on hand until January 1, 2027, while receiving no new Trezor stock. |
| Was a Trezor wallet compromised in the reported incident? | No such compromise was reported in the available accounts. The confirmed implant involved a Ledger device sold through CryptoBilis. |
Bottom line for existing owners
The reported incident is a supply-chain warning, not evidence that Trezor wallets were drained. Trezor is responding by removing CryptoBilis and tightening its reseller network, while saying there is no evidence its devices were compromised. Buyers should verify authorization immediately before purchase, create their own recovery phrase, and stop setup if a device or package appears irregular.
