Trellis Health: What Seattle’s Pregnancy and Postpartum Care App Offers

Seattle startup Trellis Health combines pregnancy and postpartum tracking with medical-record organization for a $96 annual fee. Here’s what it offers—and what its claims do not yet prove.

Seattle startup Trellis Health launched an iPhone app in May 2025 that aims to organize medical records and offer pregnancy and postpartum guidance for a $96 annual membership. The service goes beyond a standard pregnancy tracker, but its clinical impact has not been independently established, and lab testing and some connected services may cost extra.

What Trellis Health launched

Trellis’s launch happened in two stages. The company emerged from stealth and announced $1.8 million in pre-seed funding on April 17, 2025; GeekWire reported the iOS app launch on May 20, 2025. The current U.S. App Store listing describes a broader service for pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and longer-term family health. Its present features should not be assumed to have all been available on launch day.

Trellis describes its central idea as a continuous health record and guidance service: bring a person’s medical history together, make it easier to understand over time, and connect that information to pregnancy and postpartum support. The company says fragmented records across provider portals, labs, devices, and paper records can make it harder for patients to see the full picture. Pregnancy can involve multiple clinicians, tests, medications, and changing symptoms; postpartum needs may continue after routine follow-up. A consumer app may make information easier to organize, but it does not replace clinical care.

GeekWire reported that Trellis was founded in Seattle in 2022 by CEO Estelle Giraud, a former Illumina senior manager, and CTO Ryan Nabat, whose previous experience includes BlueOwl, Spect, and Virta Health. The company participated in Techstars Seattle in 2023. Giraud has said her experience with pregnancy, genomics, and digital health influenced the company’s direction; that background explains the founders’ motivation, not whether the product improves care.

How the service is intended to work

The current App Store listing says Trellis can import more than 10 years of medical history, organize records, lab results, medications, family history, and symptoms, and provide personalized guidance. It also advertises pregnancy and postpartum tracking, clinician messaging, recovery insights involving areas such as sleep and mental health, and a longer-term family-health record. At-home lab testing is available at additional cost. These are company-described features, not an independent assessment of how consistently each works.

The launch-era description emphasized recommendations and tracking informed by personal records and guidance from doctors and maternity specialists. Trellis also claims connections to more than 50,000 healthcare providers nationwide, but the public materials cited here do not define whether that number refers to institutions, record connections, or another measure. It does not establish that every user’s provider will connect successfully.

For a prospective user, the intended workflow is to create and verify an account, connect available records, review the resulting health timeline, track changes, and use guidance or messaging where available. The sources do not establish how quickly records arrive, which providers are supported, how incomplete or duplicate records are handled, or what records must be entered manually. Those details matter because the app’s usefulness depends substantially on the quality and completeness of its information.

Price, trial, and potential extra costs

The current U.S. App Store listing shows a free download, a $96 annual membership, and a one-month free trial. GeekWire also reported a $96 annual price at launch, when Trellis did not take insurance. The App Store says no insurance is required, but that does not mean all services are free or reimbursable. The listing says at-home lab tests cost extra, and partner services may also have separate charges.

There is a discrepancy worth checking at checkout: one App Store review described a seven-day trial, while the current listing says one month. A review is anecdotal and could reflect a different promotion or date; confirm the applicable trial length, renewal date, cancellation method, and price before starting. The listing claims HSA/FSA eligibility, but users should check their plan rules and the eligibility of each specific purchase.

For a personal-finance decision, the annual fee is most relevant if record organization and continued tracking are features the user will actually use. The total cost may be higher if testing or connected care is added. Trellis’s launch coverage said it did not take insurance; that statement does not resolve whether particular services now qualify for reimbursement.

Partners, funding, and company stage

GeekWire reported partnerships with Milkwise for digital lactation consulting and Mavida for mental-health support. These are connected services, not evidence that Trellis itself provides comprehensive lactation or psychiatric care. The launch coverage did not specify current state availability, prices, insurance participation, or whether care is delivered inside the app or through referrals. Users should confirm those terms and identify the clinician responsible for any service.

Trellis announced a $1.8 million pre-seed round in April 2025. Its announcement named Palette Ventures, Swizzle Ventures, NEXTBLUE, Suncoast Ventures, Sundial Foundation, and healthcare-focused angel investors. Funding and a medical advisory board announced in May 2025 indicate startup development, not clinical effectiveness or financial sustainability.

What the AI and medical claims do—and do not—establish

Trellis says AI helps translate years of health context into personalized insights. The public materials cited here do not explain which models are used, how outputs are evaluated, whether a clinician reviews recommendations, or how the system handles conflicting or missing records. They also do not establish diagnostic accuracy, complication prediction, or improved maternal or postpartum outcomes. Promotional language such as “catch issues early” should not be read as proof that the app can detect or prevent a condition.

Trellis’s AI-services policy says the company earns revenue from subscriptions and care services and that health data is not its business model. That is a company policy statement, not an independent audit. Before relying on AI-generated guidance, users may want clear answers about third-party model providers, whether identifiable health information is sent to them, whether data is used for model training, and how the app explains a recommendation.

Trellis is not a substitute for prenatal care, postpartum evaluation, emergency services, or individualized advice from a clinician. A consumer app may not have complete records, examination findings, vital signs, or the clinical context needed to assess a symptom safely. Follow your care team’s instructions and seek urgent medical attention for symptoms that may require it rather than waiting for an app response.

Privacy and control of health information

Trellis’s privacy materials describe its in-app care and messaging as involving protected health information and say users can request or export health information through the app or by contacting the company. The company also describes encryption, identity verification, and no data sharing in its marketing materials. The App Store privacy disclosure indicates that health and fitness data and usage data may be linked to the user, while diagnostics may be collected without being linked.

These statements address different issues. HIPAA rules apply to covered entities and business associates in particular circumstances; a HIPAA-related notice does not by itself establish that an app is clinically reliable or guarantee that data can never be exposed. Encryption is a security measure, not an absolute guarantee. For a more informed decision, review the full privacy notice, AI terms, consent screens, and partner disclosures, and ask about subprocessors, retention, deletion, revoking record access, partner data transfers, and whether an export includes messages and test results.

Who may find Trellis useful—and what remains uncertain

Trellis may be worth investigating for someone who has several providers, wants a longitudinal personal record, prefers ongoing tracking, and uses a compatible iPhone. Its proposed value is less compelling for someone seeking only a basic free pregnancy calendar, someone without much digital medical history to consolidate, or someone who needs insurance-covered care only.

The current U.S. App Store listing is for iPhone and requires iOS 17.0 or later. It is in English and carries a 16+ age rating. No Android availability was verified in the cited sources. Record connections and partner services may vary by provider and location, so the advertised scope should not be treated as universal access.

When the listing was captured, it showed a 3.9-out-of-5 rating from 18 ratings. That small, volatile sample offers limited anecdotal context: one review praised onboarding and record aggregation, while another described delays with identity verification and record retrieval and questioned trial access to features. These reviews are not representative evidence about reliability or clinical effectiveness.

The available sources establish a real product launch, a stated subscription price, company funding, and advertised functions. They do not independently establish that Trellis improves maternal outcomes, that its AI guidance is clinically validated, or that all advertised capabilities work equally well for every user. That distinction is central when deciding whether to pay for a health-data service.
