CNBC reported the pledge and the market context; the official Treasury data confirms the day’s closing yield figures, but does not verify the political statement or establish that it caused yields to move.
What Treasury yields showed on October 9
The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s daily par-yield curve lists the 10-year yield at 5.24% and the 30-year yield at 5.60% for October 9, 2026. These are rounded daily values derived from closing market bid prices.

CNBC’s archived live-update report gave a separate intraday snapshot: 5.2399% for the 10-year Treasury, 5.6139% for the 30-year and 4.7827% for the 2-year. Those readings should not be treated as the same observation as the Treasury’s daily figures: they differ in measurement time and reporting precision, and yields can change during a trading session.
Why the 2-year yield matters alongside longer maturities
The 2-year yield is more closely associated with expectations for near-term Federal Reserve rate decisions, while 10- and 30-year yields reflect longer maturities. The three rates do not necessarily move together, so a snapshot across maturities is more informative than describing all Treasury yields as one number.
#1 Best Overall
CNBC reported the intraday levels and described the 2-year as more closely following near-term Fed policy expectations. The yield observations alone do not establish why any particular maturity moved.
What the Treasury’s daily par yield measures
The Treasury says its par-yield curve is based on closing market bid prices for recently auctioned Treasury securities traded over the counter. It is an official daily series, distinct from an intraday market quote. For October 9, the Treasury also published a 5.60% long-term composite and a 5.65% 20-year constant-maturity Treasury rate in a separate table. Those measures are not substitutes for the 30-year par-curve figure.

What is known—and what remains unverified
CNBC reported that Trump pledged not to attack Iran until after the midterm elections. The exact wording and any conditions attached to the reported pledge are not independently confirmed by the Treasury sources, which publish yield data and methodology rather than political statements. The available reporting also does not establish that the remarks caused the market readings.
The cited material does not establish Iran’s response or whether trading later sustained the intraday levels. “Yields steady” therefore describes a reported snapshot, not a claim that rates stayed unchanged throughout the day.
