Travis Kelce joined an investor group that disclosed an approximately 9% economic interest in Six Flags in October 2025 and said it planned to engage with the company’s board and management. The announcement described an activist investment—not a takeover. Kelce later took on a separate role as a Six Flags brand ambassador for 2026.
What Kelce and the investor group announced
On October 21, 2025, activist investor JANA Partners announced a group with Kelce, consumer executive Glenn Murphy and technology executive Dave Habiger. JANA said the group collectively held an approximately 9% economic interest in Six Flags Entertainment and intended to engage the board and management on shareholder value and guest experience. JANA’s announcement did not describe a purchase of the company or an offer to acquire it.

Kelce said he was a lifelong Six Flags fan and had grown up visiting the parks with family and friends. He said he wanted to help make the company special for the next generation. JANA managing partner Scott Ostfeld said the firm looked forward to working with the board and management to unlock shareholder value.
How the investor group and Kelce’s role changed
November 2025: Murphy left the group
On November 24, JANA said Murphy had de-grouped to pursue discussions with Six Flags about a potential senior leadership role. JANA still described its partners’ collective economic interest as approximately 9%, while cautioning that JANA’s and Kelce’s beneficial ownership or economic interests could change over time. The announcement is not evidence that Kelce personally owned 9%. JANA’s update explains the change.

March 2026: Kelce became a brand ambassador
Six Flags announced a separate 2026 marketing partnership with Kelce on March 12. The company said he would provide marketing support, including digital content across social platforms. This ambassador work is distinct from his participation in the 2025 investor group; the announcement does not establish that he would manage the parks or oversee operations. Six Flags’ announcement describes the marketing role.
March 2026: a secondary report on JANA’s position
In March 2026, 13D Monitor reported that JANA’s position had increased from 3.99% to 4.06%, and that Murphy and Habiger had left the group after the 2025 announcement. Those are dated figures from a secondary industry report, not a current ownership statement and not a like-for-like restatement of the group’s approximately 9% economic-interest disclosure. 13D Monitor’s report provides that dated account.

What the board changes do—and do not—show
Six Flags separately disclosed in an October 2025 SEC filing that Executive Chairman Selim Bassoul and director Daniel Hanrahan would leave their roles effective December 31, 2025. Marilyn Spiegel was to become non-executive chair on January 1, 2026. The filing said the departures were not due to disagreements with the company or board about operations, policies or practices. It does not attribute the changes to JANA or Kelce. The SEC filing sets out the transition.

Six Flags’ August 6, 2026, second-quarter release presents two different comparisons. On a reported basis, net revenue was $865 million, down $65 million, or 7.0%, from the prior-year quarter; the net loss attributable to Six Flags was $203 million, compared with $100 million; and visits were 13.1 million, down 7% from 14.2 million. On a same-park basis, which compares parks included in both periods, net revenue was $864 million, up 2.4% from $844 million, while attendance was 13.1 million, up 4% from 12.7 million. These comparisons should not be mixed: same-park figures use a different basis from the company’s reported totals. Six Flags’ SEC-filed release contains the results.

The figures describe company performance, not the effect of Kelce’s involvement. They do not show that the investor group or ambassador partnership caused attendance, revenue or losses to change.
