Toyota Motor North America announced $912 million in investments across five U.S. manufacturing plants on November 18, 2025, with 252 jobs announced. The projects are aimed at expanding hybrid powertrain capacity and bringing hybrid-electric Corolla production to Mississippi. A separate report the following day described Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda wearing Trump-Vance apparel and a red MAGA hat at a Fuji Speedway motorsports event. Toyota’s investment announcement did not connect the event to the spending.
What Toyota’s $912 million announcement covers
Toyota Motor North America said the five projects would add capacity for hybrid-related components and hybrid-electric Corolla production. The company described the 252 jobs as part of the announcement; they are announced positions, not evidence that hiring is complete.

Amounts, job counts, project descriptions, and schedules are from Toyota Motor North America’s November 18, 2025 announcement. The release’s aggregate is $912 million and 252 jobs; it does not give a Mississippi job count. The schedules are plans, not confirmation that the lines are now operating.
Will this bring hybrid Corollas to the United States?
Yes. Toyota said the $125 million Mississippi project would add hybrid-electric Corolla production at its Blue Springs plant, describing the model as the first electrified Corolla assembled in the United States. The announcement establishes Toyota’s stated plan; it does not establish that production has already begun.

How the investment fits Toyota’s broader U.S. plan
On November 13, 2025, Toyota announced that it planned to invest up to $10 billion in U.S. operations over five years. Toyota characterized the later $912 million in five-plant projects as part of that plan. “Up to” describes a ceiling, not a guarantee that the full amount has already been spent. Toyota separately announced a $1 billion investment in Kentucky and Indiana on March 24, 2026. That is a later announcement with a different scope; it should not be added to or substituted for the November 2025 five-state total. Details are in Toyota’s March 2026 announcement.

What happened at Fuji Speedway—and what was said about tariffs?
A November 19, 2025 report by Automotive News described Akio Toyoda at a Fuji Speedway motorsports event wearing Trump-Vance apparel and a red MAGA hat. The report attributed these remarks to him before the race:
“I’m not here to argue whether tariffs are good or bad. Every national leader wants to protect their own industry. We are exploring ways to make tariffs a winner for everyone. The people we want most to be winners are our customers.”

Those details and the quote are reported by Automotive News. Toyota’s investment release does not mention the Fuji Speedway appearance or say that tariffs, the event, or the clothing prompted the five-plant investment. The headline’s juxtaposition is not evidence of a causal link, and the event should not be described as the setting where Toyota announced the investment.

In the investment release, Toyota senior vice president of manufacturing operations Kevin Voelkel said, “Customers are embracing Toyota’s hybrid vehicles, and our U.S. manufacturing teams are gearing up to meet that growing demand.” That is Toyota’s explanation for the projects. In its 2025 sales results, published in 2026, Toyota reported 1,183,248 electrified vehicle sales and said they represented 47.0 percent of its total sales volume.
