There is no defensible, evidence-backed top 10 of U.S. translation agencies in the information available here: comparable quality, pricing, and project-level evidence is missing for ten firms. Instead, this guide identifies six providers as starting points for specific needs and explains how to compare them. Nimdzi’s revenue rankings offer a useful view of company scale, not a verdict on which agency will deliver the best result for your project.
What “top” means—and what it does not
Nimdzi ranks language-service providers using reported or verified revenue. Its 2025 ranking lists TransPerfect at USD 1,230.0 million in 2024 revenue, LanguageLine Solutions at USD 1,100.0 million, and Lionbridge at USD 546.7 million. Those figures indicate scale, not translation accuracy, value, client satisfaction, or fit for a particular assignment. See Nimdzi’s 2025 ranking.
Nimdzi’s preliminary 2026 ranking, based on 2025 revenue, lists TransPerfect at USD 1,320.0 million and LanguageLine Solutions at USD 1,100.0 million. Because the ranking is preliminary, check whether a final edition has replaced it before relying on it. Neither ranking establishes that the largest provider is the right choice for your job. The six companies below are a shortlist to investigate, not a ranked list of the ten best agencies. The available evidence does not establish ten providers with comparable services and quality information, so adding four names would create a false impression of a researched ranking.

Six providers to investigate by project type
Nimdzi’s service categories are useful starting points for a conversation, not guarantees of coverage for a particular language pair, location, or assignment. Confirm that the provider can staff your exact project and ask for a written proposal.
| Provider | Potential starting point | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| TransPerfect | Large provider; Nimdzi lists translation, life sciences, and legal services. | Availability of the language pair and subject specialist you need, along with the workflow, confidentiality terms, and quote. |
| LanguageLine Solutions | Large provider; Nimdzi lists interpreting, translation and localization, healthcare, and government. It may merit consideration when written translation overlaps with language-access or interpreting needs. | Whether it directly handles your written-translation project and can meet its format, subject, and language requirements. |
| Lionbridge | Nimdzi lists translation, life sciences, technology, legal, games, and entertainment. | Fit for the specific content type and industry, rather than relying on a broad service label. |
| Propio Language Services | Nimdzi identifies interpreting as a core area and includes the company among large providers. | Direct capability and experience in written translation for your particular assignment. |
| Iyuno | Nimdzi associates the company with media localization. | Current service scope and suitability for your audiovisual or entertainment localization project. |
| Terra Translations | Nimdzi associates the company with translation and localization, video games, healthcare, and life sciences. | Current language coverage, project scope, and relevant subject expertise. |

Choose the service you actually need
Translation is written-language work; interpreting is spoken-language work. The American Translators Association (ATA) distinguishes the two, so state explicitly whether you need a translated document, live interpreting, localization, subtitling, or a combination. ATA’s client guidance can help clarify terminology.
Localization adapts content for a language and audience, often in a product or media context. If you need subtitles, software strings, or formatted marketing material—not simply translated prose—describe those deliverables separately in your request for a quote.

How to compare agencies fairly
Send each provider the same representative material and project requirements. That makes the proposals easier to compare than estimates based on different assumptions.
- Define the deliverable. Specify translation, interpreting, localization, subtitles, or a combination; include file types and whether tables, graphics, software strings, or desktop publishing must be handled.
- Give the exact language pair and subject. Name the source and target languages and the field—such as legal, medical, financial, technical, software, or entertainment. Ask about experience with that combination; a general service description does not prove a suitable linguist is available.
- Check acceptance requirements before ordering. Ask the receiving court, school, regulator, agency, or other institution what it accepts. Do not assume that ATA certification or notarization is required for every document.
- Ask how quality is managed. Find out who translates, edits, and reviews the work; how names and terminology are handled; what correction process applies; and which deliverables are included.
- Get confidentiality terms in writing. For contracts, health records, sensitive personal documents, or unreleased product material, ask how files are handled, who can access them, and how long they are retained.
- Compare complete proposals. Give each agency the same sample, deadline, language pair, and specifications. Compare the total quote, minimum charges, rush fees, included revisions, and delivery schedule. Comparable current prices and turnaround commitments are not established for the providers listed above, so request project-specific terms.
Certification and official translations
ATA’s 2024 buying guide states: “Certification is not a requirement to offer translation services in the United States.” That addresses who may offer translation services; it does not override a particular recipient’s rules for a document. Ask the receiving organization what translator qualification or certification statement, notarization, and original-document format it requires. Read ATA’s guide to buying translation services.
If you want to find an individual professional or check a credential, ATA’s directory supports searches by language pair, location, company or name, and other filters. It also offers certification-number verification and is free to use. A directory listing helps with discovery; it is not a guarantee that a provider fits your project. Search ATA’s directory.

In its 2025 survey, Nimdzi reported that 96.2% of surveyed language-service providers offered translation and localization, 82.4% machine translation and post-editing, and 65.6% subtitling. The survey also reported life sciences among the leading verticals for 62.2% of providers, financial and legal for 60.0%, and technology, IT, and software for 54.8%. These are provider-reported service-prevalence figures, not measures of quality, market share, or the likelihood that a particular agency can handle your assignment. Use review directories as a secondary check
Review platforms can help you discover providers and read client feedback, but do not treat directory placement as proof that an agency is best. Clutch discloses that it may earn fees for some placements. Use any review profile alongside project-specific questions, written terms, and references relevant to your needs.
