A same-day Yahoo Finance result put the highest rate among its partners at 4.25%. Treat 4.50% as a dated reported maximum—not a confirmed offer available to every saver—and check the bank’s current disclosures before opening an account.
What the October 6 rate figures show
The available figures come from different comparison sources and should not be read as one complete ranking of every savings account in the market.
| Source or account | Reported APY | What the figure represents |
|---|---|---|
| Fortune roundup | Up to 4.50% | Fortune’s reported high-yield savings maximum for October 6, 2026. The available passage does not identify the account or its terms. Fortune |
| Yahoo Finance partners | Up to 4.25% | Highest savings-account rate Yahoo Finance reported among its partners on October 6, 2026; this is a different provider set from Fortune’s. Yahoo Finance |
| EverBank Performance Savings | 4.20% | Bankrate listed this APY as of October 6, 2026, with no minimum opening balance and no monthly fee. Bankrate |
| Bread Savings | 4.00% | Bankrate listed this APY as of October 6, 2026, with a $100 minimum opening deposit and no monthly fee. Bankrate |
| Chime Prime Savings | 4.00% | Chime’s rate effective October 6, 2026, for eligible Prime members who meet its qualifying direct-deposit requirement. Chime |
The difference between Fortune’s 4.50% and Yahoo Finance’s 4.25% is not enough, by itself, to establish that either figure is wrong: each report covers a different comparison universe, and Fortune’s available passage does not show the account-level entry for its ceiling. Fortune says its business-day roundup uses a Curinos report covering savings and CD APYs, but the provider and restrictions behind this particular 4.50% figure are not established in the available information.
Which Chime savings tier qualifies for 4.00%?
Chime listed three savings APYs effective October 6, 2026. The higher rates depend on membership tier and qualifying deposits to Chime Checking in the prior 34 days.

| Chime tier | APY effective October 6, 2026 | Qualifying activity stated by Chime |
|---|---|---|
| Prime | 4.00% | $3,000 or more in qualifying direct deposits to Chime Checking within the prior 34 days. |
| Plus | 3.00% | At least one $200 qualifying direct deposit, or $400 in cumulative qualifying deposits, within the prior 34 days. |
| Standard | 1.00% | No additional qualifying activity is stated for this tier in the cited rate information. |
These are date-specific rates and eligibility terms, not a promise that the same APYs or requirements apply when you open an account. Review Chime’s current rate and account disclosures to confirm which tier you qualify for.
How to compare a high-yield savings account
A large APY is only useful if you can qualify for it and the account fits how you plan to save and access your money. Compare the details below using the institution’s current rate sheet and account agreement.

- Rate and date: Check the APY and the date it applies. Savings rates can change; a dated comparison is not a guarantee of today’s rate.
- Eligibility: Look for required direct deposits, membership tiers, geographic restrictions, or other qualifying activity. Chime’s October 6 Prime rate, for example, required at least $3,000 in qualifying direct deposits to Chime Checking within the preceding 34 days.
- Balance rules: Confirm any minimum balance, rate tiers, or balance cap that could limit how much earns the advertised APY.
- Opening deposit and fees: Bankrate’s October 6 examples differed: EverBank Performance Savings had no minimum opening balance, while Bread Savings required $100 to open. Both were listed with no monthly fee.
- Rate duration: Determine whether the rate is variable or promotional and, if promotional, when it ends. The available figures do not establish an end date for the cited savings rates.
- Access and protections: Check withdrawal and transfer access, and confirm the institution, account ownership, and applicable deposit-insurance coverage in the account disclosures.
Do not mistake a CD rate for a savings rate
Sallie Mae’s rate table listed a 4.50% APY for a 60-month certificate of deposit, with a $2,500 minimum; the table said its rates were accurate as of October 5, 2026. That is a CD offer, not evidence of a 4.50% savings-account rate. A CD has a stated term, while an ordinary savings account generally has a variable rate and does not require keeping a deposit for a fixed term. Sallie Mae Bank is identified as the provider of its deposit products and as a Member FDIC institution in the cited rate information. Sallie Mae rates
