The ranking is a U.S. News Best Countries Power subranking, not a definitive measure of national strength: it combines several dimensions, including economic and political influence, alliances and military capability.

The Daily Jagran’s table attributes the full list to U.S. News. The ranking page itself was not directly available for verification, so this is best understood as the reported U.S. News order rather than an independently confirmed reproduction.
What does “power” mean in this ranking?
The U.S. News-linked Power subranking considers leadership, economic influence, political influence, international alliances and military capability, according to The Indian Express. It is therefore broader than a list based only on GDP, military spending or troop numbers.

The Best Countries methodology describes a survey-based perception model. It groups 73 country attributes into 10 thematic factors and combines factor scores into an overall score. The methodology page reports 15,131 respondents across 33 countries and says country inclusion is screened using GDP, foreign direct investment inflows, tourism measures and the UN Human Development Index. Those details describe the broader Best Countries framework; they do not establish that each place in the Power subranking directly measures hard capabilities.
For that reason, read “most powerful” as the result of this publisher’s model—not as a universal verdict that one country is strongest in every respect. The Best Countries methodology explains the survey and scoring framework.

Where does India rank?
India is placed 12th in the reported 2025 list, between the United Arab Emirates at 11th and Canada at 13th. That position belongs to this particular ranking; it should not be treated as a standalone measure of India’s economy, armed forces or international influence.

Different publishers define and measure power differently. A separate 2025 index from CEOWORLD ranks India fourth, rather than 12th, using seven attributes: political stability, economic influence, defense budget, weaponry, global alliances, soft power and military strength. When comparing a country’s placement across lists, check:
- Publisher and year: Rankings may cover different editions or use different reference periods.
- Dimensions: One index may emphasize alliances or perceived leadership; another may include defense budgets or weaponry.
- Type of input: Survey-based perceptions and objective datasets answer different questions.
- Scoring and weighting: The choice and weighting of measures can change the order, even when indexes use similar labels.
The top 20 table is the reported U.S. News 2025 Power order. It is not the overall Best Countries ranking, and it does not establish a single objectively correct ranking of national power.
