Applications opened on July 7 and closed on August 15, 2022; this recruitment is no longer open to new applicants.
Which posts were included?
The Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board (TNUSRB) conducted a common recruitment for three categories: Grade II Police Constables, Grade II Jail Warders and Firemen. The police vacancies were divided between the Police Department and Investigation Department.
| Department or post | Reported vacancies |
|---|---|
| Police Department | 2,180 |
| Investigation Department | 1,091 |
| Grade II Jail Warders | 161 |
| Firemen | 120 |
| Total | 3,552 |
These administrative totals were reported by Scroll.in in 2022; the overall vacancy figure was also corroborated by a Hindustan Times report.
When did applications open and close?
TNUSRB accepted applications from July 7 through August 15, 2022. The application window has closed, so the 2022 notice and application route cannot be used to submit a new application. Scroll.in reported the original notice and dates on June 30 and the start of applications on July 7, 2022: notification and schedule and application announcement.

What eligibility did contemporaneous reporting describe?
Scroll.in’s July 2022 report described the basic requirements as age 18–26 as of July 1, 2022, with upper-age relaxation for reserved categories, and completion of SSLC/10th standard. It also reported that applicants who had not passed 10th standard were ineligible even if they held a higher qualification. These are summary details, not a substitute for the official notification: category-specific age limits and other conditions should be checked in the applicable notice before relying on them.
How was selection reported to work?
The reported selection process had three stages. The written examination included a Tamil Language Eligibility Test and a main examination; later stages were a physical efficiency test and special marks.
- Written examination: Tamil Language Eligibility Test and main exam.
- Physical efficiency test: A separate stage in the selection process.
- Special marks: The report identified NCC, NSS and sports/games credentials as relevant categories. It said the provisional select list combined written and physical efficiency scores with eligible special marks.
The exact test requirements, scoring and category conditions are governed by the original TNUSRB notice. Scroll.in’s report linked to that notice, but the official PDF could not be accessed when reviewed; the details above reflect contemporaneous reporting, not a replacement for the notification.
