TNPSC Notification No. 5/2024 announced 29 vacancies for Group I-B and Group I-C services, but its application window is closed. Applications were due by 11:59 p.m. on 22 May 2024. TNPSC later reduced the District Educational Officer (DEO) count from eight to seven, bringing the revised listed total to 28 when the 21 Assistant Commissioner posts are included.
What was the TNPSC Group I-B and I-C notification?
The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) issued Notification No. 5/2024, Advertisement No. 684, on 23 April 2024 for the Combined Civil Services Examination – Group I-B and I-C Services. It covered two posts: Assistant Commissioner in the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (Administration) Service, and District Educational Officer in the Tamil Nadu School Educational Service. The notice originally announced 29 tentative vacancies. That was the figure in the 2024 notification, not the current revised total: TNPSC subsequently changed the DEO count in a December 2025 addendum.
How many vacancies were announced, and what changed?

The original vacancy figures were described as tentative and subject to modification before publication of preliminary-examination results. On 3 December 2025, TNPSC issued Addendum 5C/2024 reducing DEO vacancies from eight to seven while retaining two teacher-quota vacancies. The revised total of 28 is the sum of the unchanged 21 Assistant Commissioner posts and the revised seven DEO posts. See Addendum 5C/2024.

What was the application deadline?
Applications were accepted online until 11:59 p.m. on 22 May 2024. The correction window ran from 27 May through 29 May 2024. TNPSC’s recruitment listing now shows the application period as closed, so this notification is not open for new applications. Check TNPSC’s recruitment listing.
How did the examination and selection process work?
The process began with a common objective preliminary examination used as a screening test. Candidates who qualified could proceed to the separate main examination for the post they sought. Preliminary-examination marks were not counted toward final merit; the prelims determined who could move on to the relevant mains.
