TNPSC Group 1 Notification No. 16/2022 was a historical recruitment notice for 92 approximate vacancies in Combined Civil Services Examination-I (Group-I Services). Applications closed on 22 August 2022, so this is not an open application opportunity. The original notice scheduled prelims for 30 October 2022, but TNPSC postponed the exam to 19 November 2022.
What the TNPSC Group 1 notification covered
The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) issued Notification No. 16/2022 on 21 July 2022 for Combined Civil Services Examination-I, commonly called Group-I Services. The initial notice listed 92 approximate vacancies. It cautioned that the number could be modified before publication of prelims results and said reservation distribution would be announced later. Read the original TNPSC notification.
The listed roles included Deputy Collector, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Taxes), Deputy Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Assistant Director of Rural Development and District Employment Officer, among other Group I posts.
Why records show both 92 and 95 vacancies
The 92 figure is the approximate total in the original 21 July 2022 notification. A later Madras High Court judgment records TNPSC’s counter-affidavit as describing 95 vacancies pursuant to that notification and action dated 2 February 2023. These figures refer to different points in the recruitment record: 92 was the initial notified estimate; 95 was the later figure described in the litigation record. The Madras High Court judgment does not make the original estimate a final count.

Eligibility depended on post and category
The notice required a degree from a recognized university or an equivalent qualification. Final-year degree candidates could apply for prelims, but had to produce proof of the degree before admission to mains. Age limits and certain qualification requirements varied by post and category; there is no single age ceiling that accurately describes every applicant. Check the original notification’s relevant post and category provisions before relying on a particular eligibility rule.

How the selection process worked
The recruitment had three stages: a preliminary examination, descriptive written mains, and an oral test or interview. The prelims were a screening stage; candidates proceeded through the later stages subject to TNPSC’s rules and results.
Preliminary examination syllabus
The degree-standard general studies syllabus covered general science, current events, geography, Indian history and culture, Indian polity, the Indian economy, the Indian national movement, and Tamil Nadu history, culture and development. It also included aptitude and mental ability. The notification contains the complete topic wording.
Mains syllabus
Mains included a qualifying Tamil language paper and four degree-standard general-studies papers. The listed subject areas included modern Indian history and culture; social issues; aptitude; polity and political trends; science and technology; Tamil society, culture and heritage; geography with emphasis on Tamil Nadu; environment and disaster management; and the economy. Refer to the notice for the full syllabus and paper details.

TNPSC placed responsibility on applicants to ensure their claims were accurate and to check the application before submitting it. Its notification also warned applicants about touts and agents who promise jobs through unfair means. For any future recruitment, rely on TNPSC notices and official application channels rather than intermediaries, and verify each entry against the relevant certificate and eligibility rule.
Because this recruitment has concluded, its dates and fees are useful only as a historical record. Anyone considering a later Group I recruitment should use that recruitment’s own notification for the current vacancies, eligibility conditions, fee schedule, dates and syllabus.
