MRB extended the original 15 May deadline to 15 July 2024; the computer-based test was scheduled for 5 January 2025, and a provisional selection list followed on 20 February 2025.
What the 2024 recruitment covered
Notification 01/MRB/2024, issued on 15 March 2024, invited applications for direct recruitment to Assistant Surgeon (General) posts in the Tamil Nadu Medical Service. The original notice listed 2,553 vacancies. It said the vacancy distribution would be announced later, so 2,553 describes the original notification and should not be treated as a confirmed final or revised total. MRB Notification 01/MRB/2024
MRB describes this recruitment as an online application process followed by a written examination. This is a completed recruitment cycle, not a current application opportunity.
Application dates and deadline extension
Online applications opened on 24 April 2024. The original deadline was 15 May, but a corrigendum issued on 14 May extended the deadline for both online application and payment to 15 July 2024. The cutoff for Tamil Nadu Medical Council registration was also revised to on or before 15 July 2024. MRB corrigendum dated 14 May 2024

Examination and selection status
MRB announced the computer-based test schedule on 28 November 2024. The test was scheduled for 5 January 2025, with the Tamil Eligibility Test from 09:00 to 10:00 and the subject paper from 10:15 to 12:15. The MRB examination listing also includes a separate Assistant Surgeon (General) examination dated 25 January 2026. That is a different cycle; it should not be confused with the 2024 recruitment and its January 2025 examination. MRB examination listing
