What Titan reported for Q2 FY27
Titan Company Limited’s October 6, 2026 filing covers the quarter ended September 30. It reported growth in consumer-business sales, not 25% growth in profit or earnings. The company said the figures were rounded to the nearest integer, provisional and subject to limited review by its statutory auditors.

Titan added 78 net stores during the quarter, bringing its combined consumer-business network to 3,758 as of September 2026. CaratLane grew 32%; Tanishq, Mia, Zoya and beYon together grew 20%, according to the company filing.

Why shares fell despite the growth update
Business Standard reported that Titan shares fell nearly 4% intraday on October 7, 2026, reaching an intraday low of ₹4,371. Its report said jewellery growth of 21% was below Nomura’s roughly 25% expectation. It also reported that Tanishq, Mia and Zoya together grew 20%, below that estimate.
That comparison is against one brokerage’s expectation, not proof that Titan missed the market consensus. Analyst estimates can differ, and the sources available do not establish a consensus figure. The move is therefore best understood as a reported market reaction to a slower-than-expected jewellery result for at least one analyst, rather than evidence that every part of Titan’s business disappointed.
Business Standard also cited several possible pressures: gold-coin sales declining from a high base, the timing of Shradh, a high base associated with higher gold prices, and festive demand shifting from Q2 into Q3. These are explanations reported alongside the share move; the coverage does not prove that any single factor caused the decline.
Keep the timing of the price figures clear. The Economic Times reported that Titan closed at ₹4,550 on October 6, down 0.66% in that session. That close is separate from the sharper intraday decline reported the following morning; it is not the same return or measurement period.

What was happening inside jewellery
Titan said jewellery demand was healthy through most of the quarter but softened toward its close as the festive calendar shifted into Q3 FY27. The mix of sales helps explain why the headline jewellery number needs context:
- Studded jewellery grew in the early thirties.
- Plain gold jewellery grew about 20%.
- Investment-led gold-coin demand declined by a high single digit from a high base.
- Buyer growth was in the mid-single digits, while average ticket size growth was double digit.
These figures are from Titan’s October 6 filing. They describe different parts of jewellery demand and should not be conflated: for example, declining coin sales do not mean all jewellery categories contracted. The company attributed the late-quarter softening to festive timing, with more demand moving into Q3.

Was weakness broad across Titan?
No: the reported growth rates were not uniform, and the company also reported strong growth outside jewellery. Watches rose about 30%, including analog watches in the early thirties and a smartwatch recovery to high-single-digit growth. EyeCare rose about 28%. Those figures, like the jewellery data, are provisional company-reported year-on-year growth for Q2 FY27.

The available reports do not establish GST as the decisive overhang behind either Titan’s jewellery growth or the October 7 share move. Titan’s update discusses segment performance, coin demand and the festive calendar but does not mention GST. The contemporaneous Business Standard and Economic Times coverage reviewed focuses on jewellery growth relative to expectations and demand timing, without attributing the market reaction to GST.

That is not proof that GST has no effect. It means the evidence here is insufficient to describe GST treatment or a transition effect on Titan’s categories, or to claim that it drove the quarter’s performance or share-price reaction. A GST explanation would require a specific tax change and a documented connection to Titan’s sales, costs or investor commentary; neither is established in these reports.
