Short answer: TikTok’s Creator Rewards Program pays rewards only for qualifying videos that are at least one minute long. That does not mean TikTok pays creators only for long videos: brand partnerships, Gifts, LIVE features, Series and commerce have separate rules. A minute of runtime is a threshold—not a guarantee of earnings.
What happened to TikTok’s Creativity Program?
The headline’s claim was accurate for TikTok’s Creativity Program Beta, announced on February 20, 2023. The beta required eligible creators to publish high-quality, original videos longer than one minute to earn program rewards. TikTok said eligible U.S. creators could apply starting May 3, 2023, with at least 10,000 followers and 100,000 authentic video views in the preceding 30 days. TikTok’s beta announcement described the launch and its initial requirements.
TikTok planned to replace the Creator Fund with the Creativity Program in the U.S., U.K., France and Germany beginning December 16, 2023. In March 2024, it introduced the renamed Creator Rewards Program, keeping the one-minute minimum while revising how rewards are calculated. TikTok says the old Creator Fund is no longer available and has been replaced by Creator Rewards; see its Creator Fund update and Creator Rewards announcement.
Who can join Creator Rewards?
TikTok’s published requirements include all of the following. Availability depends on region and may change, so check the app rather than assuming the program is offered where you live.

- Be at least 18 years old, or 19 in South Korea.
- Have a TikTok account registered in an eligible region.
- Use a personal account; Business Accounts and certain political or government accounts are not eligible.
- Have at least 10,000 followers and at least 100,000 video views during the preceding 30 days.
- Keep the account in good standing and provide authentic account information.
To check access, open Profile → Menu → TikTok Studio → Creator Rewards Program. If the option is available and you meet the requirements, follow the in-app application steps. TikTok’s localized support guidance says applicants typically receive a response in about three days; labels and availability can differ by app version and location. Which videos can earn rewards?
Account eligibility and video eligibility are separate. A qualifying video generally must meet these conditions:

- Run for at least one minute.
- Be uploaded after you join the program; views on an older video generally do not become eligible just because you later enroll.
- Be original, high quality and compliant with TikTok’s Community Guidelines, Terms of Service and copyright rules.
- Reach at least 1,000 qualified views from the For You feed before rewards begin accruing.
- Generate eligible views: TikTok excludes paid, promoted, fraudulent or artificially generated activity, and a view generally must last longer than five seconds to count as qualified.

Originality is more than being the uploader
TikTok’s originality rules may exclude Duets, Stitches, reuploads, clips carrying another creator’s watermark, compilations with little new creative contribution, and looped footage, slideshows or text-only overlays without meaningful original work. Sponsored or promotional content may also be excluded from Creator Rewards, even when it earns money separately through a brand agreement.

How Creator Rewards are calculated
TikTok does not promise a fixed dollar amount per view. Rewards are based on qualified views and RPM—rewards per 1,000 qualified views—with TikTok’s revised formula taking into account originality, play duration, search value and audience engagement. TikTok also describes additional reward considerations tied to content quality, appeal and specialization. The program announcement explains the revised approach.
TikTok has said the redesigned program offers the potential to earn up to 20 times as many rewards as the old Creator Fund. That is TikTok’s potential comparison, not a guaranteed payout or standard rate for every creator. Earnings vary with qualified-view volume, audience location, retention, content category, search demand and other factors. The in-app dashboard provides estimated rewards, eligibility information, performance metrics, RPM and qualified-view data; creators can appeal a video eligibility decision.

Why a 61-second video may earn nothing
Making a video just over one minute long satisfies only the duration test. It may earn nothing if you are not enrolled, your account or region is ineligible, the video was uploaded before you joined, it is not sufficiently original, it fails to reach 1,000 qualified For You views, or its views are too short, paid, promoted or otherwise excluded. A policy violation or TikTok’s later eligibility review can also affect rewards. Sponsored content may earn from a brand while remaining outside Creator Rewards.

Lengthen a video when the subject genuinely benefits from more explanation, context or story. Tutorials, demonstrations, reviews, comparisons, recipes, educational explainers, interviews and behind-the-scenes pieces can support longer viewing. Search-focused answers may also give viewers a reason to stay.
Do not stretch an eight-second joke, a quick visual reveal or a simple trend with filler just to cross the threshold. Longer runtime creates an opportunity to qualify, but padding can hurt retention and audience satisfaction. TikTok’s emphasis on longer storytelling is an incentive structure, not a rule that every post should be longer. Consider whether your subject can sustain attention, whether you can produce original material consistently, and whether your audience wants the extra detail.

Other ways creators can earn on TikTok
Creator Rewards is one monetization route, not the whole of TikTok monetization. These alternatives have separate eligibility rules and do not guarantee income.

Short videos can still support these other income sources. A sponsorship, sale or Gift is governed by its own terms, not by the one-minute Creator Rewards threshold.
