TikTok remains available to U.S. users through Apple’s App Store and Google Play as of August 9, 2026. Its February 2025 return followed an enforcement delay, not repeal of the 2024 divest-or-ban law; since then, TikTok’s U.S. operation has moved into TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC.
That distinction matters if you have money tied to TikTok through Shop purchases, creator income, advertising, subscriptions, or an account containing paid content. A store listing confirms current availability, not a permanent guarantee that the service, payments, or updates will always remain available.
TikTok’s current U.S. status

On January 22, 2026, TikTok’s U.S. operations moved into TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC. TikTok announced the venture’s establishment on January 23, describing it as majority American-owned and responsible for U.S. data protection, algorithm security, content moderation, and software assurance. The phrase “TikTok returns to U.S. app stores for now” describes the February 2025 development, but is no longer the complete current picture. TikTok remains available, and its U.S. operating structure has since changed.

Why TikTok disappeared before returning
The January 2025 event involved more than stopping fresh downloads. The law covered an app store’s ability to distribute, maintain, or update a covered application. That meant a store restriction could affect an installed app over time.
Apple said that users who already had TikTok installed might continue using it, but could not necessarily redownload it after deleting it or restore it to a new iPhone. Without updates, an app could eventually develop compatibility, performance, security, or feature problems. TikTok’s service returned before its store listings did. That is why January 19 and February 13 are not interchangeable dates: the first refers to the brief service outage and the second to the return to Apple’s and Google’s U.S. stores.

Creators and sellers
If TikTok is part of your income, treat it as a distribution channel rather than your only business infrastructure. Save copies of videos, customer records, tax documents, invoices, and payout information in systems you control. Maintain another way for customers or followers to find you.
A store removal does not automatically erase money already owed to you, but it can make it harder to access an account, publish content, communicate with customers, or receive timely support. Check the payment method and tax information attached to your TikTok account while you can still sign in.

TikTok Shop customers
Keep order confirmations, tracking details, seller messages, and refund records outside the app. For a disputed purchase, save screenshots showing the order number, amount, date, seller, and promised delivery date. Do not assume that an app outage cancels a card charge or extends a return window.
If a purchase was made through Apple or Google billing, the relevant refund process may involve that billing provider. If it was a TikTok Shop transaction, start with the order’s support and dispute process, then contact your card issuer if the merchant-resolution process fails or the transaction is unauthorized.

- iPhone: Open Settings, tap your Apple Account name, then Subscriptions. Select TikTok to view or cancel a subscription.
- Android: Open Google Play, tap your profile picture, choose Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Select TikTok to manage it.
- Either platform: Check your bank or card statement for charges that do not appear in the store’s subscription list. Some purchases are billed directly by the service or another provider.
Deleting the TikTok app does not necessarily cancel a subscription. Cancellation normally must be completed through the billing account that created the recurring charge.
Advertisers
Businesses should export campaign reports, invoices, audience data that they are permitted to retain, and copies of creative assets. Keep advertising budgets diversified across platforms. A sudden store or service restriction could interrupt campaign delivery without giving a small business a practical replacement overnight.
What to do if TikTok disappears from your store again
- Check the official store listing directly. On iPhone, use the U.S. App Store. On Android, use Google Play. Avoid links sent by strangers through messages or comments.
- Check your account region. Store availability can depend on the Apple Account or Google Play country setting, not just your physical location. Changing regions can affect payment methods, subscriptions, balances, and existing purchases, so do not change it casually.
- Do not treat a VPN as a complete fix. A VPN may change apparent network location, but it does not automatically change store region, payment settings, update eligibility, account access, or the legality of distribution.
- Do not install random APKs or unofficial app packages. Sideloading can expose login credentials and payment information to malware. It also does not solve compatibility, account, service-access, or legal problems.
- Back up important records. Save receipts, payout statements, invoices, order information, and content you may need for tax, refund, or business purposes.
- Watch your financial accounts. Review cards and bank accounts for unexpected renewals, unfamiliar merchants, or duplicate charges. Report unauthorized transactions promptly to the financial institution that issued the card or account.
Common misconceptions about the ban
- “The January 2025 outage permanently banned TikTok.” No. Service returned after roughly half a day, although the app remained absent from U.S. stores until February.
- “The executive order canceled the law.” No. The January order and later extensions instructed the Justice Department to delay enforcement. They did not repeal the statute or reverse the Supreme Court’s decision.
- “TikTok returned to the stores on January 20.” No. Existing users regained service around that period, but the store listings returned on February 13–14.
- “ByteDance sold all of TikTok.” That is too broad. The completed arrangement concerns TikTok’s U.S. operation, governance, and safeguards. It does not mean ByteDance disappeared globally or that worldwide TikTok became an entirely unrelated service.
- “A store listing guarantees permanent access.” No. It confirms current availability under the store’s account, region, and platform rules. It is not a promise about future legislation, enforcement, service interruptions, or updates.
