The figures are connected: the later round included the $46.7 million, so they should not be counted as two entirely separate cash raises. Tidal Vision makes chitosan-based industrial solutions from seafood-processing byproducts, including crustacean shells.
How much has Tidal Vision raised?
GeekWire reported on May 17, 2024, that an SEC filing disclosed $46.7 million in fresh cash for Tidal Vision. In its February 2025 coverage of the company’s Series B, GeekWire explained that roughly half of the $140 million round included that $46.7 million. The remaining amount disclosed in the May 2024 filing reflected previously issued notes converting into equity. The two reported figures therefore describe related stages of the financing, not two wholly separate cash raises. GeekWire’s May 2024 report and February 2025 coverage provide that timeline.
On February 5, 2025, Tidal Vision announced that it had closed an oversubscribed $140 million Series B. The company said the funding would support expanded production capacity and research and development for chitosan-based solutions. Cambridge Companies SPG led the round; the company also named Eni Next, Milliken & Company, KIRKBI Climate, Convent Capital, SWEN Capital Partners’ Blue Ocean Fund, MBX Capital, and Oman Investment Authority’s IDO Investments as participants. Tidal Vision’s Series B announcement lists the investors and intended use of the funding.
What Tidal Vision makes from crab shells
Tidal Vision is a Bellingham, Washington, biomolecular solutions company. It says it converts seafood-industry byproducts, including crustacean shells, into chitosan and chitosan-based products for water science, agriculture, and materials applications. Chitosan is the name for the chemical family at the center of the company’s business; it is not simply a consumer product made from crab shells. Tidal Vision’s company site describes its mission and business scope.

The company traces its origin to co-founders Craig Kasberg and Zach Wilkinson meeting in Alaska in 2015. Its founding story centers on using seafood-processing leftovers that might otherwise be discarded as feedstock for chitosan. Tidal Vision says two billion pounds of fish and crab byproducts are discarded annually in Alaska; that is the company’s figure, and its page does not specify a year for it. The company’s story page presents the origin and statistic.
Where the business operates
Tidal Vision organizes its work into three named divisions, each focused on a different application area:
Rank #2
- Crab Meal Fertilizer - Organic and All Natural
- Bulk Crab Meal (Ground Crab Shell) from 5-15 pounds
- Crab Meal adds Nitrogen and Phosphorus to soils!
- Crab Meal improves drainage and H2O and Oxygen capacity in soil
- Crab Meal is extremely beneficial in Vegetable gardens and in poor soils
- Tidal Clear: water-related solutions.
- Tidal Grow: agriculture, including crop protection and plant nutrition using chitosan-based technologies. Tidal Grow’s site describes those applications.
- Tidal Tec: biomaterials.
KIRKBI’s Annual Report 2024 also identifies Tidal Clear, Tidal Grow, and Tidal Tec as the company’s divisions. KIRKBI Annual Report 2024 provides that portfolio context.
What the company says about its process
Tidal Vision describes a process chain of extraction, precision modification, formulation, and integrated application. It calls its Chitofining extraction process zero-waste and says its Zale Technology can produce concentrations at 5X or higher while reducing viscosity by 98% or more. These are Tidal Vision’s descriptions and performance claims, not independent validation. The company’s technology page explains its process and claims.

Those technical statements do not by themselves establish the company’s overall environmental performance. The available sources do not provide an independently audited lifecycle analysis or third-party validation of comparative environmental claims, such as whether a particular Tidal Vision solution has a lower footprint than an alternative across its full production and use cycle.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the financing means—and what it does not prove
The Series B announcement shows that Tidal Vision secured substantial investor backing to expand production and research and development. It does not, by itself, establish that the company’s products have achieved a particular market share, commercial scale, or independently measured environmental benefit. Craig Kasberg, co-founder and CEO, told GeekWire that the company aims to turn a problematic waste stream into something beneficial that displaces non-biodegradable toxins and heavy metals. That statement describes the founder’s view of the company’s impact, not independent proof of those outcomes. GeekWire’s 2024 report carries the quotation.

For a personal-finance reader, the key distinction is between an announced financing round and a verified investment return: the public announcements establish the financing timeline and stated plans, but do not disclose terms that would let outside readers assess investor returns or value the company. The 2024 filing figure is reported by GeekWire; the primary SEC filing was not located among the cited sources.
