The five monitors still make a useful comparison for students, parents, remote learners and gamers, but prices, inventory, sellers and specifications must be checked on the exact Walmart product page before ordering. A Walmart listing for the LG 34WR50QC-B showed $349 and out-of-stock status in a check dated August 16, 2026.
For most multitasking, the LG ultrawide is the strongest specification fit; the Acer is the sensible compact student choice; MSI is the gaming pick once its exact model is identified; Samsung favors a large inexpensive screen; and onn. is aimed at basic second-monitor duty.

- INCREDIBLE CONTRAST: The VA panel produces brighter whites and deeper blacks. You get true-to-life images and more gradients with 16.7 million colors

- A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
Best overall for productivity: LG 34WR50QC-B
The LG offers a 21:9, 3440×1440 workspace that is substantially wider than a normal 16:9 1920×1080 monitor. That extra width is useful for two documents, research beside notes, wide spreadsheets and editing timelines without a second panel.
LG lists a 34-inch VA panel, 100Hz maximum refresh rate, 300 cd/m² typical brightness, 3000:1 contrast, 1800R curvature, 5ms GTG response, HDR10 and AMD FreeSync. Connectivity is two HDMI inputs, one DisplayPort input and a headphone output. The stand tilts, and the display supports a 100×100mm wall mount. See the LG product page and LG’s detailed regional specifications.
A 34-inch ultrawide needs considerable horizontal desk space and does not provide USB-C charging. Some games, consoles and older software may not use the full 21:9 image. The Walmart page checked on August 16, 2026 showed $349 and out of stock, so treat the original $249 figure as historical only: Walmart listing.

Best compact student monitor: Acer SA241Y
At 23.8 inches, 1920×1080 is a practical size-and-resolution pairing for documents, web apps and video calls. The 75Hz IPS display reported in the 2024 article should be easier to fit on a dorm desk than a 31.5- or 32-inch panel, and it can serve as an inexpensive second screen.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe article listed HDMI, VGA, AMD FreeSync, 250-nit brightness, a tilt range of about −5° to 15° and 178-degree horizontal and vertical viewing angles. Acer has sold closely related SA241Y variants with different ports, stands and refresh rates, so confirm the complete suffix and specifications on the Walmart page. VGA may require an adapter with a modern laptop, and this class of monitor generally lacks USB-C docking and height adjustment.
Best for gaming: the MSI 31.5-inch 165Hz model
A 165Hz refresh rate can make supported games look smoother than 60–75Hz, but it matters only when the computer and connection can deliver high frame rates. Confirm that the laptop or desktop has a suitable HDMI or DisplayPort output and that its graphics hardware can drive 165Hz at 1920×1080.

- Clear visuals. Fluid motion: A 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms MPRT deliver smooth, tear‑free motion across work, gaming, and streaming for clearer, more fluid viewing.
- Eye comfort: TÜV Rheinland 3‑star* certification reduces harmful blue light while preserving stunning color quality without compromise. *TÜV Rheinland 3-star eye comfort certification.
- Wide viewing angle: Get consistent views across a wide 178° /178° viewing angle.
- In-Plane Switching (IPS): See excellent color accuracy and consistency across wide viewing angles with In-plane Switching (IPS) technology.
- Ultra-thin bezels: Maximize your viewing experience with thin bezels.
The original listing described a curved 31.5-inch Full HD monitor with AMD FreeSync, 250-nit brightness, a claimed 1ms response time, two HDMI 1.4 ports and DisplayPort 1.2. It did not identify the full MSI model number. That omission matters: MSI sells several similar 31.5-inch curved displays with different panels, refresh defaults and response-time modes. A comparable G32C4 E2 document lists a VA panel, 1920×1080 resolution, 170Hz maximum (165Hz default operation), 250-nit brightness, 4ms GTG/1ms MPRT and the same broad port pattern, but it does not prove that model was the Walmart item. Use the MSI specification document only as a model-identification reference.
Full HD is relatively low in pixel density at 31.5 inches, so text and fine interface elements will look less crisp than on a 24-inch 1080p or 27-inch 1440p display. The advertised “1ms” may use an MPRT or special overdrive mode and is not directly comparable with every brand’s GTG figure.

Best large budget curved screen: Samsung CR500
The CR500 description covered an approximately 31.5-inch 1500R curved VA panel at 1920×1080, 75Hz, 250 nits and a claimed 4ms response time. That combination suits video, browsing and general use when a large image matters more than highly detailed text or competitive gaming.

- CURVED FOR ENHANCED ENGAGEMENT: An immersive viewing experience with a curved monitor that wraps more closely around your field of vision; It creates a wider view, enhancing depth perception and minimizing peripheral distraction
- SMOOTH PERFORMANCE FOR SEAMLESS CONTENT: Stay in the action when playing games, watching videos, or working on creative projects; The 100Hz refresh rate reduces lag and motion blur so you don't miss a thing in fast-paced moments¹
- MORE GAMING POWER: Gain the edge with optimizable game settings; Color and image contrast can be adjusted to see scenes more vividly and spot enemies hiding in the dark; Game Mode adjusts any game to fill the screen so you can view every detail²
- KEEP IT EASY ON THE EYES: Care for your eyes and stay comfortable, even during long sessions; Advanced eye comfort technology certified by TÜV reduces eye strain by minimizing blue light and reducing irritating screen flicker²
- INCREASED VERSATILITY: Connect to more; Plug devices straight into your monitor for increased flexibility, making your computing environment even more convenient
At this size, 1080p has visibly lower pixel density than 24-inch Full HD. A 75Hz ceiling is adequate for schoolwork but offers little reason for a gaming buyer to choose it over a high-refresh model. Samsung uses regional CR500/CR50 model numbers, so verify the exact suffix, inputs, stand and warranty. Walmart’s Samsung monitor category shows family-level inventory signals, not proof that the 2024 deal remains available.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Best ultra-budget second monitor: onn. 24-inch
The onn. monitor is the simplest option: 24-inch 1920×1080, 75Hz, one HDMI input, one VGA input, a V-shaped stand and reported 75×75mm VESA compatibility. The original listing also included a six-foot HDMI cable. Those features make it suitable for basic schoolwork or extending a laptop desktop at minimum cost.
Check the current seller, condition, warranty, dead-pixel policy and return terms carefully. It is not aimed at color-critical work, high-refresh gaming or one-cable USB-C laptop setups. A slightly more expensive 24-inch Acer, AOC, Lenovo or HP display may offer better ergonomics or support if a current listing is available.

Why resolution and refresh rate change the choice
Resolution versus screen size
3440×1440 on the LG provides materially more horizontal workspace than 1920×1080. Full HD is perfectly serviceable for ordinary school applications, but it looks sharper on a 23.8- or 24-inch panel than on a 31.5- or 32-inch screen.
Refresh rate
- 60–75Hz: sufficient for documents, email, browsing and video calls.
- 100Hz: makes scrolling and pointer movement feel smoother while retaining a productivity focus.
- 165Hz: primarily a gaming benefit when the computer can generate high frame rates.
A faster refresh rate does not by itself improve academic work, and it can add cost that a Word, Google Docs and PDF user will not exploit.
Check compatibility before ordering
- Identify the computer’s available HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C or Thunderbolt output.
- Determine whether an adapter or dock is required, and whether it supports the desired resolution and refresh rate.
- Check whether a Mac, Chromebook or school-managed Windows device limits external displays.
- For two monitors, verify that the laptop, dock or DisplayLink adapter supports the required number of screens.
- Confirm audio needs: these monitors may lack useful built-in speakers, and the LG listing’s review summary specifically points users toward external audio.
Panel, desk and ergonomics trade-offs
IPS panels generally provide consistent viewing angles and predictable color. VA panels usually deliver stronger contrast and deeper blacks, while motion behavior and viewing-angle performance vary by model. Curved VA screens can feel immersive but are less convenient when several people need to view the screen together.
A 24-inch monitor is easiest to place on a shallow dorm desk. A 31.5- or 32-inch curved model needs more viewing distance, and a 34-inch ultrawide needs substantial horizontal clearance. Tilt-only stands provide less positioning control than height-adjustable stands; VESA support matters if you plan to use an arm.
Quick Recap
How to verify a Walmart listing
- Match the complete model number in the title, specifications and photos; do not rely on a family name such as “SA241Y” or “CR500.”
- Check whether the item is sold and shipped by Walmart or by a marketplace seller.
- Confirm new, refurbished or used condition, the current price and any reference price.
- Review shipping, pickup and ZIP-code availability.
- Read the exact return window and warranty terms.
- Make sure the listed ports, stand adjustment, resolution and refresh rate match your computer and desk.
- Save the product page and price at checkout; inventory and promotional pricing can change.
Which one should you choose?
- Choose the LG for research, spreadsheets, editing and a one-screen replacement for two monitors, if it is in stock at a price you accept.
- Choose the Acer for a compact desk and normal schoolwork, after verifying the exact suffix and whether you need a VGA adapter.
- Choose the MSI for gaming only after confirming the full model number, connection standard and graphics capability.
- Choose the Samsung when a large curved image for video and general use matters more than crisp text.
- Choose the onn. when the lowest verified total cost and basic second-screen function are the priorities.
