The Zelle App Has Been Discontinued: What It Means for You

The standalone Zelle app has been discontinued. You can still use Zelle through a participating bank or credit union’s mobile app or online banking.

The standalone Zelle app is no longer available, but Zelle payments continue through participating banks’ and credit unions’ digital banking services. To use Zelle, check whether your financial institution participates, then look for Zelle in its official mobile app or online banking.

What happened to the Zelle app?

Zelle ended enrollment and transactions in its standalone app. The change affects how people access the service, not the Zelle network itself: participating banks and credit unions continue to offer Zelle through their own digital banking services. Zelle’s current access guide says there is no standalone Zelle app. Zelle’s access guide

Zelle announced the change on October 31, 2024, and said users could access transaction history in the standalone app until March 2025. The transition is complete. At the time of that announcement, Zelle said more than 2,200 financial institutions participated and about 2% of transactions took place in the standalone app; those were announcement-era figures, not current counts. How to access Zelle now

  1. Check whether your bank or credit union participates. Search for it in Zelle’s participating-institution finder. Zelle says its service is available in over 2,400 banking apps.
  2. Open your institution’s official banking app. Look for Zelle or a menu item such as “Send Money,” “Pay & Transfer,” “Payments,” “Transfers” or “Move Money.” Labels differ by institution.
  3. Try online banking if needed. Some institutions also offer Zelle through their website, but online availability varies.
  4. Contact your institution if you cannot find it or need help. For Zelle in your bank’s or credit union’s mobile or online banking, Zelle directs customers to call the number on the back of their debit card. Zelle support information

If your financial institution does not offer Zelle

Zelle’s current access instructions do not offer a separate Zelle app as a workaround. Ask your bank or credit union whether it offers the service, and check Zelle’s finder for current participation. You do not need to switch institutions simply because the standalone app ended; whether Zelle is available depends on your existing institution. Zelle’s access guide

Check payment details before sending

Changing where you access Zelle does not change the need to verify a payment. Zelle says transfers to enrolled recipients typically arrive within minutes, and a payment to someone already enrolled cannot be canceled. Confirm the recipient’s enrolled U.S. mobile number or email address and the amount before you authorize a payment. If you suspect an imposter scam, contact your bank or credit union promptly.
