The 2024 Buffalo Trace Antique Collection (BTAC) comprised five limited-release whiskeys: three bourbons and two rye whiskeys. Buffalo Trace announced a suggested retail price of $149.99 per bottle, sold individually, but that figure is historical guidance—not a current price or a promise that bottles are available.

What was in the 2024 Buffalo Trace Antique Collection?

Buffalo Trace announced the fall 2024 lineup on October 22, 2024. It contained exactly five expressions: William Larue Weller, Eagle Rare 17-Year-Old and George T. Stagg bourbons, plus Sazerac 18-Year-Old and Thomas H. Handy rye whiskeys. The specifications and tasting notes below are the distillery’s published descriptions, not independent tasting results. Buffalo Trace’s 2024 release announcement is the source for the lineup details.

Expression Style and age stated for 2024 Proof stated for 2024 Buffalo Trace’s tasting description
William Larue Weller Wheated-recipe bourbon; over 12 years 125.8 New leather, light pipe tobacco, caramel, marshmallow sweetness and ripe fruit on the nose; caramel and toffee on the palate; a long finish with oak, caramel and fruit.
Eagle Rare 17-Year-Old Bourbon; distilled in spring 2007; 17 years and 4 months old 101 Oak, caramel, vanilla and pepper on the nose; caramel, rye spice, toasted oak and tobacco on the palate; a finish of caramel, pepper, leather, oak, roasted tobacco and dried fruit.
George T. Stagg Kentucky straight bourbon; more than 15 years and 2 months 136.1 Deep aged wood, rich oak and dark cherry on the nose; spice, oak, caramel and soft cinnamon on the palate; a long, drying finish.
Sazerac 18-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey Rye; 18 years and 5 months old Not stated in the 2024 announcement Oak and leather with ripe plum, rye grain and earthy notes on the nose; rye spice, smoke, dark cherry and licorice on the palate; tobacco and charred oak on the finish.
Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Straight Rye Whiskey Rye; over six years 127.2 Freshly cracked black pepper and cinnamon on the nose; spice and oak on the palate; a long finish with cinnamon, pepper and clove.

How do the five expressions compare?

Bourbon or rye

The lineup divides into three bourbons—Weller, Eagle Rare 17 and Stagg—and two rye whiskeys, Sazerac 18 and Handy. That is the clearest first distinction if you are choosing by whiskey style rather than age or proof.

Age and proof

The age statements run from Handy, at over six years, to Sazerac 18, at 18 years and 5 months. Eagle Rare 17 was 17 years and 4 months; Stagg was more than 15 years and 2 months; and Weller was over 12 years. The announcement supplied proof figures for four bottles: Eagle Rare 17 at 101, Weller at 125.8, Handy at 127.2 and Stagg at 136.1. It did not state a proof for the 2024 Sazerac 18, so a number from another vintage should not be substituted.

Producer tasting notes

Buffalo Trace’s descriptions distinguish the bottles by their stated aromas, palate notes and finishes: Weller’s notes include marshmallow sweetness and caramel; Eagle Rare 17’s include pepper, toasted oak and tobacco; Stagg’s emphasize aged wood, dark cherry and a drying finish; Sazerac 18’s mention plum, rye grain and licorice; and Handy’s highlight black pepper, cinnamon and clove. These are the producer’s notes, not a guarantee that every drinker will perceive the same flavors.

What did the 2024 collection cost?

Buffalo Trace announced a suggested retail price of $149.99 per bottle for the 2024 release. Bottles were to be sold individually nationwide, with local taxes and fees varying. This is a historical suggested retail price from the announcement, not a verified current retail price, a guarantee of local availability, or a secondary-market valuation. The announcement does not establish what a buyer will pay now.

Is the 2024 lineup the same as the current collection?

No. The five-bottle list above is specific to the 2024 fall release. Buffalo Trace’s current Antique Collection page says the collection grew to six expressions beginning in 2025, when E.H. Taylor Bottled-in-Bond joined. That later addition should not be counted as part of the 2024 lineup.

How should you use this guide when considering a bottle?

  • Use the release’s age, style and stated proof to compare the five expressions; treat the tasting descriptions as Buffalo Trace’s guidance rather than a personal tasting report.
  • Compare any asking price with the 2024 $149.99 suggested retail figure cautiously: it is a historical reference, not proof of a fair current price or of bottle authenticity.
  • Check local rules and seller details directly before attempting to buy. Current inventory, lawful shipping options and present-day prices are not established by the 2024 announcement.
