Volkswagen Group’s 2025 deliveries fell sharply in the United States even as its latest Super Bowl campaign put the brand in front of a national audience. Group deliveries in the U.S. dropped 12.4% year over year, to 576,922 vehicles; worldwide deliveries slipped just 0.5%, to 8,983,900. Those figures describe different markets and the whole Volkswagen Group—not only the Volkswagen passenger-car brand—and do not show whether the ad changed sales.
What was Volkswagen’s Super Bowl campaign?
Volkswagen of America announced “The Great Invitation: Drivers wanted” on February 3, 2026. The company planned a 30-second spot for the second half of Super Bowl LX, recasting its 1990s “Drivers wanted” platform. How much did Volkswagen sales fall?
The clearest evidence of a sales struggle is the U.S. result for Volkswagen Group in fiscal 2025: deliveries fell 12.4% from 658,314 vehicles in 2024 to 576,922. Worldwide Group deliveries were almost flat by comparison, down 0.5% from 9,026,681 to 8,983,900. These are company delivery figures, not a count of retail registrations, and the U.S. number covers the Group rather than just Volkswagen-brand passenger cars. The gap matters: describing Volkswagen’s results simply as a worldwide collapse would overstate the evidence, while the global total obscures a significant U.S. decline.
Were results weak in every region and vehicle category?

The U.S. BEV increase is a product-mix counterpoint, not evidence that overall U.S. demand was strong: all U.S. Group deliveries still fell 12.4%. The regional results also show why a single global percentage can conceal substantially different market conditions.
What does Volkswagen say caused the U.S. decline?
Volkswagen Group’s annual report says the U.S. market was in the range reported the previous year and points particularly to the tariff situation as a reason for its lower U.S. deliveries. Does this mean the Volkswagen passenger-car brand was already shrinking?
Not on the 2024 volume measure cited here. The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand delivered 3,109,007 vehicles in 2024, excluding China and including external manufacturing, up 3.1%. Its operating result nevertheless fell 27% to €2.59 billion, and its operating margin after restructuring declined to 2.9% from 4.1% in 2023. The available figures establish that Volkswagen had a prominent campaign and that Volkswagen Group deliveries declined in the U.S. in 2025. They do not establish that the campaign caused, prevented, or changed that decline. The campaign announcement describes the intended message, while the delivery reports record vehicle volumes; neither provides a measured advertising-sales effect. Treating the two facts as parallel context—not proof of cause and effect—is the defensible conclusion.
