Manchester City was the highest-revenue Premier League club in Deloitte’s 2024 Football Money League, with €826 million for the 2022/23 season. Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Arsenal followed. Here, “richest” means reported football revenue—not club valuation, owner wealth, profit or transfer budget.
Which Premier League club made the most money?
Manchester City led the Premier League in Deloitte’s 2024 Money League, which covers financial years ending in 2023 and the 2022/23 season. It ranked second among all clubs worldwide. The next five Premier League sides were also in the global top 10.

These amounts are Deloitte’s reported revenue figures, in euros, for the 2022/23 season; they are not valuations. Eight Premier League clubs featured in the Money League’s global top 20. Deloitte’s 2024 Football Money League reports that the 20 clubs in its ranking generated €10.5 billion collectively, 14% more than the previous year.
What does “richest” mean in this ranking?
The Money League ranks clubs by revenue from three broad sources: matchday, broadcasting and commercial activity. It does not rank the value of a club, the personal wealth of its owners, its profit, cash reserves or the amount available for transfers. Revenue is money generated over a reporting period; it does not by itself show how much a club keeps after costs or whether it is financially healthy.

- Matchday: Mainly gate receipts and hospitality income.
- Broadcasting: Includes distributions and prize money from domestic leagues, cups and UEFA competitions.
- Commercial: Includes sponsorship, merchandising and other commercial operations.
For all Money League clubs in 2022/23, Deloitte reported €4.4 billion in commercial revenue and €1.9 billion in matchday revenue. The average broadcasting revenue of the featured Premier League clubs rose to €243 million, from €208 million the previous season; Deloitte linked the increase in part to international broadcast rights. These are group-wide or league-club averages, not figures for any one club.
Why “as of 2023” can mean two different rankings
The year in the title can refer either to accounts for 2022/23, which were covered by Deloitte’s 2024 edition, or to the report published in 2023, which covered 2021/22. The figures should not be mixed: the editions use different seasons, currencies and rankings.

If “2023” means the 2023 Money League edition, the Premier League order for 2021/22 was Manchester City (£619.1 million), Liverpool (£594.3 million), Manchester United (£583.2 million), Chelsea (£481.3 million), Tottenham Hotspur (£442.8 million), Arsenal (£367.1 million), West Ham United (£255.1 million), Leicester City (£213.6 million), Leeds United (£189.2 million), Everton (£181 million) and Newcastle United (£179.8 million). Deloitte’s 2023 edition placed 11 Premier League clubs in the global top 20; these sterling figures are reported by BBC Sport.

The ranking is useful for comparing reported scale, but club accounts are not perfectly uniform. Deloitte says clubs may classify revenue differently and that reporting perimeters and accounting practices vary. It makes adjustments in some cases, but does not audit the information supplied. Transfer fees for players and coaches, VAT and other sales-related taxes are excluded from the Money League revenue measure.
As a result, a ranking position is not a complete measure of financial strength or sporting success. When comparing clubs beyond their totals, look at the same season and currency and consider the matchday, broadcasting and commercial components separately.
