Re:

The Richest Members of the Pinault Family, Ranked: What Public Estimates Actually Show

Forbes’s Pinault family estimate is not a member-by-member ranking. Here is what public wealth estimates and Kering disclosures do—and do not—show.

François Pinault is the Pinault family member named in the strongest public wealth profiles, but those profiles do not establish a personal ranking of the family. Forbes displayed an estimate of $26.1 billion for “François Pinault & family” as of September 10, 2026. That is a combined family profile, not a breakdown of individual fortunes.

So the evidence supports one aggregate wealth estimate—not a reliable ranked list of François, François-Henri, Dominique and Laurence Pinault. The figures below are attributed to their publishers and dates because they measure different things.

Who is the richest member of the Pinault family?

Public estimates identify François Pinault as the namesake of the family’s wealth profile, but do not show how that wealth is divided among him and his relatives. Forbes’s profile is explicitly titled “François Pinault & family”; its $26.1 billion figure, displayed as a real-time estimate on September 10, 2026, is therefore an aggregate estimate rather than François Pinault’s disclosed personal net worth. Forbes’s profile does not provide a comparable personal figure for each family member.

Accordingly, the only defensible ranking from the available public evidence is a single aggregate entry:

François-Henri Pinault’s leadership role, or any relative’s public profile, cannot be used to infer who personally owns the largest fortune. No comparable, current personal net-worth estimates are established for François-Henri, Dominique and Laurence Pinault.

How much is the Pinault family worth?

There is no single figure that all wealth trackers agree on. Forbes’s $26.1 billion estimate is a family aggregate in US dollars, while Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index lists François Pinault as an individual and reports a lower estimate. Bloomberg says its index is updated after each New York trading day and converts estimates to US dollars at current exchange rates. Because the entries differ in subject and potentially in asset assumptions, they should not be averaged or presented as competing measurements of the same thing. Bloomberg Billionaires Index

A separate French ranking provides another dated measure: Le Monde reported that the Challenges 2025 ranking estimated the family’s wealth at €15 billion, down from €23.6 billion in its 2024 ranking. These are euro-denominated annual-ranking estimates, not direct conversions of Forbes’s real-time dollar estimate. Le Monde linked the decline to weakness in the luxury sector. Why François-Henri Pinault’s role does not prove he is wealthier

François-Henri Pinault has held senior positions in the family business for decades. Kering’s official biography says he joined the Pinault group in 1987, became head of Artémis in 2003, and was appointed Kering’s chair and CEO in 2005. Since September 15, 2025, he has served as Chairman of Kering’s Board. Those facts establish his professional succession and governance responsibilities; they do not disclose his personal net worth or show that he is wealthier than his father or siblings. How Kering ownership connects to the family fortune

Kering is central to the public picture of the Pinault family’s wealth. The company reported that Artémis, the holding company controlled by the Pinault family, owned 42.3% of Kering as of December 31, 2024. That is a corporate ownership disclosure; it does not state how much of Artémis or its Kering stake belongs personally to each family member. Kering’s shareholding structure

François Pinault founded the business that became Kering in 1963. Forbes says the company shifted toward luxury in 1999, following the acquisition of a controlling stake in Gucci Group. Kering’s houses include Gucci, Saint Laurent and Alexander McQueen. Forbes also cites Christie’s and an art collection among family-associated assets, but those broad references do not assign their value or ownership to individual relatives. Forbes’s profile

What a public ranking can—and cannot—tell you

  • It can identify the scope of a published estimate. Forbes names a family aggregate; Bloomberg’s index labels François Pinault individually; Challenges publishes a French family-ranking estimate.
  • It can show how estimates differ over time. The Challenges figures reported by Le Monde fell from €23.6 billion for 2024 to €15 billion for 2025, while the Forbes profile displayed a real-time dollar estimate on September 10, 2026.
  • It cannot establish a member-by-member order. A holding-company stake, executive position, inheritance expectation or family association with assets is not a personal net-worth disclosure.

For that reason, the evidence does not support answering whether François-Henri Pinault is richer than François Pinault. It supports a family-level estimate and limited corporate context, not a reliable comparison of their individual fortunes.
