Neymar tops the latest located ranking of footballers by reported career transfer fees, at €400 million. Romelu Lukaku is second at €375.9 million and Cristiano Ronaldo third at €247 million, according to Sky Sport’s list published on 15 August 2026. These are cumulative totals for multiple moves—not the fee for a single transfer.

Top 10 footballers by cumulative transfer fees

The table reproduces Sky Sport’s ranking and reported euro totals as published on 15 August 2026. Treat the figures as that source’s reported career sums, not as audited or universally standardized totals.

Rank Footballer Reported cumulative fees
1 Neymar €400 million
2 Romelu Lukaku €375.9 million
3 Cristiano Ronaldo €247 million
4 Alexander Isak €246.1 million
5 Ousmane Dembélé €233 million
6 Álvaro Morata €229.2 million
7 João Félix €228.1 million
8 Antoine Griezmann €206 million
9 Matthijs de Ligt €197.5 million
10 Sandro Tonali €194.4 million

Sky Sport’s ranking, 15 August 2026.

What “cumulative transfer fee” means

A cumulative transfer-fee total adds the reported fees associated with a player’s paid club moves over a career. It answers, “Which players have generated the largest combined reported fees across transfers?” It does not identify the most expensive individual deal. Transfermarkt describes its cumulative statistic as the total sum of transfer fees and the number of transfers, but that description does not establish a shared accounting standard across publishers.

Neymar’s total versus the single-transfer record

Sky Sport identifies Neymar’s 2017 move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain for €222 million as the largest single fee, and also reports an €88 million Barcelona move from Santos and a €90 million transfer from PSG to Al-Hilal as components of his career total. His €400 million ranking figure therefore reflects several reported transfers, not one €400 million deal. Sky Sport’s report gives the ranking and fee details; FootballTransfers’ 14 April 2026 article also reports the €222 million PSG move and a €400 million cumulative total.

Why published rankings and totals differ

There is no single fully documented accounting rule behind every published career-fee total. A source may need to make judgments about undisclosed or estimated fees, loan charges, later permanent moves, conditional add-ons, and currency conversion. Sky Sport provides a dated ranking but does not explain a complete treatment of each category. For that reason, compare totals only when the currency, snapshot date, and fee-inclusion rules are aligned.

Do not combine conflicting lists

FootballTransfers’ 14 April 2026 article is useful as a cross-check, but its lower ranks are inconsistent: its prose gives Griezmann €206 million while its table gives €182 million, and the table’s order and displayed ranks do not align cleanly. The later Sky Sport list is the dated source used for the top ten above; mixing the two would create a ranking that neither source actually published.

Older snapshots are not current equivalents

BBC Sport reported Lukaku’s cumulative career fees as £294.5 million in 2023, before later moves and data updates. That historical figure is in pounds, from a different date, and should not be compared directly with the 2026 euro totals. The BBC noted at the time that Neymar’s then-pending move to Al-Hilal could affect the lead. BBC Sport’s 2023 article provides that historical context.

A 2026 study in Ekonomista, using a Transfermarkt-based dataset snapshot, lists Lukaku at €322 million, Neymar at €310 million, and Ronaldo at €247 million. Its table is a different, older snapshot of recorded career fees, not a replacement for the later Sky Sport ordering. The study’s table and method context illustrate how rankings shift with data cut-off and fee recording.

How to read the list

  • Read the date and attribution with the total: the ranking above is Sky Sport’s reported list from 15 August 2026.
  • Keep the currency attached to any comparison; a pound-denominated historical total is not directly comparable with a euro figure from another year.
  • Do not infer that every source counts loans, add-ons, estimates, or undisclosed terms in the same way.
  • Understand the result as a reported career-fee ranking, rather than a definitive ledger of what clubs ultimately paid.
