What is the most expensive bathing suit in the world?
The clearest high-value example is the Susan Rosen bikini made with diamonds supplied by Steinmetz Diamonds. Sports Illustrated Swimsuit’s retrospective, updated in 2025, calls it a $30 million bikini and its most expensive suit. A contemporaneous 2006 report from IDEX Online says the bikini contained 150 carats of D Flawless diamonds set in platinum.
The garment was designed by Susan Rosen and modeled by Molly Sims in the 2006 issue. The $30 million figure should be read as a reported value, not as evidence that someone paid that amount. Sports Illustrated Swimsuit says it cannot confirm the rumor that Tiger Woods bought the bikini in 2009, and it does not identify a current owner.
Why there is no verified “top 10” ranking
Published stories attach large values to a mix of objects: conventional swimsuits, a diamond bikini, a bikini top, and elaborate fashion-show lingerie. Their reported amounts come from different years and currencies, and the sources do not establish ten distinct, comparable bathing suits with verified sale prices. How to interpret the prices
Reported value is not sale price
These figures describe values reported by publications or records sources. The Shimura swimsuit was reportedly offered at $1.5 million, but the Reuters report does not say it sold. The diamond bikini’s $30 million valuation likewise does not establish a transaction. None of the cited accounts supplies a verified auction result for these examples.

Different years and currencies do not make a clean ranking
The dollar amounts refer to different historical years; the Indian Express examples are reported in rupees. Without a consistent valuation date, currency method, and comparable garment definition, converting these figures into a single ranked list would suggest a level of precision the sources do not provide.
Swimwear and fantasy lingerie are different categories
A jeweled bikini or swimsuit is swimwear. Fantasy bras, matching belts, and body-chain sets are fashion-show lingerie, even when their prices exceed those of ordinary garments. What the records say about the Anne Cole suit
Guinness World Records lists Anne Cole’s 1983 swimsuit at $12,000 (£8,000), crediting head designer Sidney Smilove and noting its 19 diamonds and 91 cultured pearls set in 14-carat gold. Guinness attributes to Smilove the remark that “a $12,000 swimsuit is a great investment.” The page does not give an interview date for that quotation.
