The HMD Skyline 5G listing at Target showed the 8GB/256GB model for $399.99, $50 below Target’s stated $449.99 regular price. That is also $100 below the $499.99 price displayed on HMD’s U.S. site—but the Target listing is sold and shipped by third-party marketplace seller 232 Inc., not Target. Most importantly, HMD says the U.S. Skyline is not compatible with Verizon.
What the HMD Skyline deal includes
The Target listing is for a dual-SIM HMD Skyline 5G with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. At the time the listing was observed, it showed the phone in stock. Prices and availability can change, so confirm the details on the product page and at checkout.
| Deal detail | What the listings showed |
|---|---|
| Target price | $399.99 |
| Target stated regular price | $449.99 |
| Target advertised reduction | $50, or about 11.1% off Target’s stated regular price |
| HMD U.S. displayed price | $499.99; the Target price is $100 less than that displayed price |
| Configuration | 8GB RAM, 256GB storage, dual SIM |
| Seller and shipper | 232 Inc., a third-party Target marketplace seller |
| Carrier warning | HMD says the U.S. Skyline is not compatible with Verizon |
These are two different comparisons, not a single $100 Target markdown: Target advertises $50 off its own listed regular price, while the $100 difference is against HMD’s displayed direct price. Neither comparison establishes a universal market price or guarantees the same price will remain available.
Check the Target Skyline listing and HMD’s U.S. offers page for the displayed prices. Target’s listing says price matching is not valid on mobile phones.

Check carrier compatibility before buying
HMD’s U.S. buying page lists compatibility with T-Mobile, AT&T, Tracfone, Metro, Boost and Consumer Cellular, while explicitly excluding Verizon. That makes the Skyline a poor bet for Verizon customers and customers of Verizon-based services unless HMD or the seller confirms compatibility for the exact model. “Unlocked” does not mean compatible with every U.S. network.
Carrier support can vary by model, region and network technology. Before ordering, verify the exact U.S. model with both the carrier and seller; do not rely on specifications from an international Skyline listing. See HMD’s U.S. Skyline specifications and compatibility details.

Why the Skyline stands out
Repairable components
The Skyline is designed so owners can replace parts including the screen and battery using approved parts and tools. That can make it appealing to people who keep phones for years or want the option to repair a damaged device rather than replace the whole phone. It does not guarantee a repair will be easy or cheaper: parts, tools, shipping, repair skill and any labor costs all matter. HMD provides a screen-replacement repair guide.
Qi2 magnetic wireless charging
Built-in Qi2 support allows magnetic alignment with compatible chargers and accessories. That is a distinctive feature for an Android phone and may be useful if you already want magnetic charging accessories. Qi2 compatibility does not mean a charger is included, and the available review says buyers may need to budget separately for an appropriate 30W charger. Check the Target box contents before purchasing.

Display, storage and cameras
The U.S. configuration has 256GB of storage and a 6.55-inch display. Tech Advisor’s November 2024 review describes a 6.55-inch pOLED panel with a refresh rate up to 144Hz, a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor, a 108MP main camera and a 50MP autofocus front camera. HMD’s U.S. listing also notes a rear 0.5x lens. Those specifications describe the hardware, not a guarantee that its photos or performance surpass competing phones. Megapixel counts alone do not establish camera quality.
The same review highlights the phone’s distinctive design and Qi2 support, but describes performance as mid-range rather than flagship-class. It also notes the absence of a headphone jack. See Tech Advisor’s HMD Skyline review for its product assessment.

Marketplace seller, not direct Target fulfillment
The Target product page identifies 232 Inc. as the seller and shipper. Before paying, check that the seller, condition, configuration and delivery terms still match what you want. The listing showed free and easy returns and said in-store returns are available within 14 days for a full refund; review the current listing and checkout terms for the exact item, since marketplace return arrangements can matter.
Limited water and dust protection
Tech Advisor reports an IP54 rating. That offers limited protection against dust and water splashes; it is not a submersion rating. If your phone regularly faces heavy rain, pools, dusty work sites or accidental drops into water, this is a meaningful compromise compared with phones rated IP67 or IP68.

Confirm the current software-support commitment
Tech Advisor’s November 2024 review criticized the Skyline’s two-year core Android-update commitment. That is a launch-era review, not confirmation of HMD’s policy today. Check HMD’s current support terms for this model before buying, especially if long software and security support is a priority.
Charger and warranty details need checking
The review says a 30W charger may need to be bought separately, but that does not establish what is in every Target package. The listing should also be checked for the warranty issuer and whether the specific phone is a U.S. model. Do not assume an international or mismatched configuration has the same network support or warranty.

The Skyline is a specialist-value choice: its strongest differentiators are repairability and Qi2 magnetic charging, not a proven lead in camera processing, update longevity, water resistance or raw performance. The alternatives below are comparison candidates, not verified current deals; check the exact model and price before comparing.
Quick Recap
| Alternative | Consider it if… | How the Skyline differs |
|---|---|---|
| Google Pixel 8a | You prioritize Google’s software experience and computational photography. | The Skyline’s repairability and Qi2 support are more distinctive; the Pixel is a camera-focused comparison rather than a repairability match. |
| Samsung Galaxy A35 5G | You prefer Samsung’s ecosystem and broader retail familiarity. | Compare current support, durability and promotions against the Skyline’s repairable design and Qi2. |
| Motorola Edge-family model | You want a mainstream U.S. retail option and are comparing display and design. | Exact models and promotions vary; compare the specific device’s carrier support and update policy. |
| Fairphone 5 | Repairability is your overriding priority. | It has a repair-focused proposition, but U.S. availability, price, performance and camera priorities may differ. Digital Trends discusses the comparison in its HMD Skyline review. |
Who should buy the HMD Skyline?
It makes sense if
- You use a carrier HMD lists as compatible, not Verizon.
- You value replaceable components and are comfortable researching or doing repairs.
- You will use Qi2 magnetic charging and accessories.
- You want 256GB of storage and like the Skyline’s design and display.
- You accept mid-range performance and have checked HMD’s current software-support terms.
Look elsewhere if
- You use Verizon or cannot confirm compatibility for your exact model.
- Long-term software support, stronger water protection, top-tier gaming performance or camera processing is your main priority.
- You want a charger included, direct manufacturer fulfillment, or a phone sold directly by Target.
- A competing phone has a more attractive current promotion and better matches your priorities.
Checkout checklist
- Confirm the price is still $399.99 and check the final total, including tax.
- Verify that 232 Inc. remains the seller and shipper, and review its current delivery and return terms.
- Check that the phone is new, the U.S. model, and the 8GB/256GB configuration you intend to buy.
- Confirm carrier compatibility with HMD and your carrier, especially if you use Verizon or an MVNO.
- Review who provides the warranty and whether its terms apply to this marketplace purchase.
- Check the package contents for a charger; Qi2 support does not establish that one is included.
- Read the return window and delivery date shown for the exact item before placing the order.
