Titanic is Leonardo DiCaprio’s highest-grossing film by a wide margin, with Inception and The Revenant next in the ranking. The figures below are cumulative worldwide theatrical grosses in nominal dollars—not inflation-adjusted totals, studio profits, actor earnings, or ticket sales.
Leonardo DiCaprio’s 10 highest-grossing movies
This ranking uses the worldwide grosses reported in Box Office Watch’s Leonardo DiCaprio filmography, captured in 2026. Amounts are shown as that provider reports them, rounded to the nearest tenth of a million except for Titanic. The figures are cumulative nominal box-office totals, not inflation-adjusted.
| Rank | Film | Release year | Worldwide gross reported by Box Office Watch |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Titanic | 1997 | $2.26 billion |
| 2 | Inception | 2010 | $828.0 million |
| 3 | The Revenant | 2015 | $533.4 million |
| 4 | Django Unchained | 2012 | $425.0 million |
| 5 | The Wolf of Wall Street | 2013 | $392.0 million |
| 6 | Once Upon a Time in Hollywood | 2019 | $377.4 million |
| 7 | The Great Gatsby | 2013 | $354.0 million |
| 8 | Catch Me If You Can | 2002 | $352.0 million |
| 9 | Shutter Island | 2010 | $295.0 million |
| 10 | The Departed | 2006 | $291.0 million |
Why Titanic leads by so much
Box Office Watch reports Titanic at $2.26 billion worldwide—more than twice the reported gross of Inception, the second-place film. That makes the top spot clear in this provider’s figures, even though other sources report a different total for the film.
Where newer releases fit
One Battle After Another (2025), starring DiCaprio, is not included in the Box Office Watch filmography’s ranked table, which ends with 2023 releases. The Numbers’ full-film page reports a worldwide gross of $213,118,884, with theatrical releases beginning September 24–26, 2025. Its actor page instead reports $53,092,104 for the same film, so the records conflict. The full-film figure would place it well below the top ten; an exact position among lower-grossing films depends on which provider’s totals are used. See The Numbers’ film record and actor record.

What box-office gross does—and does not—measure
Gross is not profit or pay
A film’s worldwide box-office gross is the money reported from theatrical ticket sales. It is not the studio’s profit: production budgets do not include all costs, such as marketing, and the gross is not the amount left after expenses. Nor is a film’s full gross DiCaprio’s personal income. Actor filmography totals can count a movie’s entire gross for multiple performers, regardless of each person’s role.
Nominal totals are not adjusted for ticket prices
The ranking compares reported dollar grosses without adjusting for inflation or changing ticket prices. A higher nominal total does not necessarily mean a film sold more tickets than an older release. The Numbers describes its all-time worldwide chart as a ranking by cumulative worldwide box-office earnings; that is a nominal-gross measure, not an admissions ranking.

Why published totals differ
Box-office databases can report different cumulative totals, so figures should be attributed to a provider rather than averaged together. For example, The Numbers lists Titanic at $2,223,048,786, compared with Box Office Watch’s $2.26 billion. The Numbers figure appears on its Titanic record. Differences like these are why this list uses one provider consistently for its top ten.
Full career rankings also depend on which credits count. The Numbers separates lead, lead ensemble, supporting, narrator, and other credits. A list based on every credited role may therefore differ from one limited to starring performances. The Box Office Watch capture also contains an apparent ordering anomaly below its top ten: it reports The Aviator at $214.0 million but places it beneath films with lower reported totals. The table above is ordered by the reported figures; that lower portion should not be reused as a ranking without checking and sorting the values.
