The exact device behind the claim that a new “first Ethereum ASIC” has launched could not be identified from the available sources, so that launch claim is unverified.
Can an ASIC mine ETH on Ethereum Mainnet?
No. Ethereum Mainnet completed The Merge on September 15, 2022, replacing proof of work with proof of stake. Its valid blocks are produced by validators, not miners. Ethereum.org explains that “Mining is no longer the means of producing valid blocks. Instead, the proof-of-stake validators have adopted this role and are now responsible for processing the validity of all transactions and proposing blocks.” Ethereum.org’s explanation of The Merge was last updated May 15, 2026.
Ethereum’s historical proof-of-work algorithm was Ethash. Ethereum.org now describes mining as switched off and documents Ethash as part of that historical system, not as a way to produce blocks on Mainnet today. See its historical mining-algorithm documentation.
What could an “Ethereum ASIC” actually mine?
The label can refer to hardware designed for an algorithm or a different blockchain, rather than a machine that mines ETH on Ethereum Mainnet. An Ethash ASIC may be intended for a network that still uses proof of work. A secondary hardware roundup, for example, discusses iPollo Ethash machines in the context of miners who moved to Ethereum Classic after Ethereum’s switch. That is a different use case: the roundup does not establish Ethereum Mainnet compatibility.

Ethereum Classic mining does not count as mining ETH on Ethereum Mainnet. The networks are distinct, and a device’s ability to mine Ethash or Ethereum Classic does not make it capable of producing valid Mainnet blocks.
Is a new Ethereum ASIC launch verified?
The specific device, manufacturer, launch date, and announcement behind the “just launched” claim could not be identified in the available sources. A surfaced PR.com index entry points to a September 1, 2017 press release attributed to HMiners Technologies Inc. claiming Ethereum-capable rigs; it is historical promotional material, not evidence of a current launch. The PR.com listing does not verify a new Ethereum Mainnet miner.

Without an identifiable device and its manufacturer’s primary announcement, the launch claim should be treated as unconfirmed. Whatever the product turns out to be, a proof-of-work ASIC cannot mine ETH on Ethereum Mainnet under its current proof-of-stake consensus.

What this means before spending money
- Check which network the manufacturer says the machine supports. “Ethash,” “Ethereum Classic,” and “Ethereum Mainnet” are not interchangeable.
- Do not treat a claim that a device mines Ethereum Classic or another Ethash network as evidence that it mines ETH on Mainnet.
- Look for a dated announcement from the manufacturer that names the exact product and supported chain before relying on claims of a new launch.
