It crossed the threshold at auction in 2008, selling for €7,040,000, reported at the time as US$10,894,900. London dealer Joe Macari’s listing of the car was reported in October 2020; its availability today has not been established.
What made this Ferrari the first $10-million car?
At RM Auctions’ Ferrari Leggenda e Passione sale in Maranello on May 23, 2008, chassis 2377GT sold for €7,040,000. New Atlas reported the contemporary dollar conversion as US$10,894,900 and described it as the first car ever sold at auction for more than US$10 million. The euro hammer-price figure and the reported dollar conversion refer to that 2008 sale, not a current valuation. New Atlas’s May 23, 2008 report
Why was it reported as back on the market?
New Atlas reported on October 19, 2020, that the Ferrari had been listed on London dealer Joe Macari’s website. The article quoted no asking price and said the seller’s expectations had not been disclosed. “Back on the market” therefore describes that 2020 report; the available reporting does not confirm that the car is for sale now. New Atlas’s October 19, 2020 report
The 2020 article forecast that the car might sell for more than US$15 million and discussed a possible US$15–20 million range. Those figures were the publisher’s expectations at the time, not a reported transaction or an established current asking price.

What is known about the car’s provenance?
New Atlas reported that Coburn acquired the Ferrari through Garage Francorchamps, owned it for 25 years and sold it in 1986. The same account names Andrew Cohen and Bruce S. Lustman among subsequent owners before the 2008 auction, where Chris Evans bought it. The 2008 report identifies chassis 2377GT and says it was completed on March 3, 1961. These are details reported by New Atlas; they are not independently verified here against a factory archive. New Atlas, October 19, 2020 New Atlas, May 23, 2008
What are its reported specifications?
New Atlas’s October 2020 article calls the car the 13th of 55 short-wheelbase California Spyders built and lists a three-litre engine, 276 hp and a four-speed gearbox. Its May 2008 report gives engine displacement as 2,953 cc and output as 280 hp, also with a four-speed gearbox and three carburettors. The horsepower figures differ between the reports, so neither should be treated as a reconciled specification. 2020 report 2008 report

How does the 2026 California Spider sale compare?
A separate 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider, chassis 2955 GT, sold at RM Sotheby’s Monaco sale on April 25, 2026, for €16,655,000. RM Sotheby’s describes that car as the 26th of 56 short-wheelbase examples and says it was one of 39 originally configured with covered headlamps. It is not Coburn’s chassis 2377GT, and its result does not establish a later price or sale status for that car. RM Sotheby’s official lot result
