That offer is historical, not a currently confirmed sub-$1,000 deal. Dell’s latest indexed U.S. listing for a different XPS 15 9530 configuration is $1,099, so verify the exact model and final checkout total before buying.
What the $999 deal actually was
Laptop Mag reported the promotion on November 14, 2024. Dell was the retailer, and the advertised price was $999—$300 below the stated $1,299 regular price. The promotion was tied to Black Friday and had reportedly reached $999 earlier that month as well. See the original report at Laptop Mag.

The report does not establish that $999 was an out-the-door total after sales tax and shipping, nor does it document financing costs, optional warranty coverage, Microsoft 365, or accessories. It also does not establish whether every unit was new rather than clearance, outlet, refurbished, or open-box stock. Treat $999 as the advertised promotional price for that listing.

Do not assume a listing simply called “XPS 15” has these specifications. Dell’s currently indexed XPS 15 page describes an i7-13700H, 16GB DDR5, 512GB SSD and Intel Arc A370M graphics at $1,099: Dell’s configuration page. That is not the same processor or graphics configuration as the 2024 $999 offer.
#1 Best Overall
- 32GB DDR5 4800MHz RAM, 1TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD; 13th Gen Intel 10-Core i7-13620H (10-core 16 threads, base clock speed 2.4GHz, max turbo to 4.9GHz, 24MB L3 Cache)
Why the XPS 15 was attractive at $999
Premium construction
The XPS 15 line uses an aluminum exterior and carbon-fiber-style palm rest, giving it a more expensive feel than many mainstream 15-inch Windows laptops.
A bright, spacious display
The historical model’s 1,920 × 1,200 panel provides more vertical workspace than a standard 16:9 1080p screen, and the listed 500-nit brightness is useful in bright rooms.
Productivity and light creative work
An H-series Core i7 and 16GB of memory are well suited to office applications, programming, research, schoolwork and substantial multitasking. The chassis and display also make moderate photo work and light video editing reasonable uses.

Useful connectivity
Dell’s indexed XPS 15 9530 configuration includes two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, another USB-C port with DisplayPort, a headset jack and an SD-card slot. A USB-C-to-USB-A/HDMI adapter is included on that listing. Buyers who regularly use native USB-A, HDMI, Ethernet or several conventional peripherals should budget for a hub or dock.

The biggest catch: Iris Xe is not RTX graphics
The $999 configuration used Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics. That is appropriate for web and office work, programming, moderate photo editing, light video editing and casual or older games. It is not an RTX-class gaming or rendering system.
Modern high-frame-rate gaming, complex 3D work, demanding effects and sustained 4K production require a laptop with a discrete GPU. Dell also lists higher-end XPS 15 variants, including an i9/32GB/1TB/RTX 4060/OLED configuration at $2,099, but that is a fundamentally different and much more expensive machine: Dell’s higher-end listing.
Graphics names matter here: Iris Xe in the historical deal and Intel Arc A370M in Dell’s indexed $1,099 configuration are not interchangeable. Confirm the GPU before comparing prices or expecting gaming performance.

Older platform
The XPS 15 9530 launched in 2023, and the $999 promotion appeared in 2024. By 2026 it is an aging design. Check the remaining warranty, return period, battery condition and parts availability, especially for clearance, outlet, refurbished or open-box units.
720p webcam
The advertised model has a 720p camera. That is a noticeable weakness if video meetings are a central part of your work or school day.
Weight
Dell lists the FHD+ XPS 15 9530 at a starting weight of approximately 4.21 pounds. It is a large premium laptop, not an ultraportable for daily commuting.
Is $999 still a good price?
Buy at $999 when these conditions hold
- The listing is genuinely $999 or less before any clearly disclosed tax and shipping.
- You receive at least 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD.
- The unit is new, or its refurbished/open-box status, battery condition, warranty and return rights are explicit.
- You value the premium materials, bright 15.6-inch display and strong CPU more than weight, webcam quality or cutting-edge graphics.
- Your workload is productivity-focused with light creative work or casual gaming.
Skip it when these conditions apply
- The price is $1,099 or higher without a meaningful upgrade such as a discrete GPU, OLED display, larger SSD or extended warranty.
- You need modern gaming, 3D rendering or professional 4K editing performance.
- Low weight, long battery endurance or a better webcam is a top priority.
- The seller will not identify the exact CPU, GPU, display, warranty or battery status.
- A newer laptop with a more efficient processor and stronger integrated graphics is available for similar money.
Checklist before ordering
- Match the exact model number or Dell order code to the advertised CPU, GPU, display, RAM and SSD.
- Confirm whether the machine is new, outlet, refurbished or open-box.
- Read the warranty length, return deadline and who pays return shipping.
- Calculate the final checkout price, including sales tax, shipping, accessories, optional coverage and any financing charges.
- Confirm that the charger and any promised USB-C adapter are included.
- For non-new inventory, obtain battery-health information and inspect the return policy before payment.
What to consider if the $999 unit is gone
A newer large-screen XPS
Dell now positions the New XPS 16 as a successor-class large-screen premium model. Its indexed entry configuration was $1,789.99 with a Series 3 Intel Core Ultra 5 processor, 16GB LPDDR5X memory, 512GB SSD and a 16-inch 2K display. It is a newer-platform option, not a $1,000 replacement. See Dell’s New XPS 16 page.
Business laptops
If webcam quality, ports, serviceability and frequent travel matter more than the XPS styling, compare current business-class 14- or 16-inch Windows laptops. They may be less striking but can offer more practical connectivity and support options.
Rank #4
- With 16 GB DDR5 SDRAM of memory, runs as many programs as you want without losing the execution
- 15.6" display with 1920 x 1200 resolution showcases movies, games and photos with impressive clarity
- 1 TB total SSD capacity provides more productive performance and superior data storage for a variety of files including HD quality videos, movies, photos, music, and more
Dedicated-gaming alternatives
For current games or GPU-accelerated creative applications, look at laptops with a discrete graphics processor rather than treating an Iris Xe XPS 15 as a gaming bargain.
Non-Windows alternatives
Readers who do not depend on Windows-only software can also compare MacBook Air-class systems for efficiency, weight and battery life, while recognizing the operating-system trade-off.

Bottom line for shoppers
The $999 Dell XPS 15 was a real November 2024 promotion for an i7-13620H/16GB/512GB/Iris Xe model with a bright FHD+ display. It was a credible value for buyers prioritizing premium construction and a large screen over gaming power, portability and webcam quality. As of the latest indexed Dell U.S. pages available for this update, the original offer is not confirmed as live: the comparable XPS 15 listing is $1,099 and uses different hardware. Buy only after matching the exact configuration and calculating the true checkout cost.
